will a 2005 VRS tdi starter work on a 2000 SDi???

i need a new motor and there is a VRS one on ebay for £35

You would need to check the part numbers, as the number of teeth on the pinion may be different. VRS has 6 speed gearbox, so mountings may be slightly different.
