Main dealer cambelt changes

Featured Replies

The FSSH on my Octy shows a cambelt change was conducted 40k miles ago in mid 2007. It just has listed "L - Cambelt change" along with other service items on the bill, with the cost of the cambelt being £218 + VAT. Does anyone know if this would have included the water pump and tensioner as part of the change, i.e., if that was a standard part of the cambelt change procedure? I'm sure that 2007 is post the service bulletin about "early" failures on cambelts (back in 2004 IIRC), but the dealer who did the work (Woodheads of Blackpool) no longer exists so trying to find out this information seems to be tricky.

Cheers.

Hard to tell. Water pump is optional but tensioner should be changed at the same time as the belt. Cambelt kits are often listed as simply cambelt change, even though the other bits do get fitted.

generally speaking a cambelt kit from the dealer would include the tensioners and idlers and often a few nuts and bolts depending on engine...

does the invoice have any mention of G12 coolant? that is a good indicator that it has been done because they need to drain and refill the coolant system to change the pump

Very unlikely it was anything more than a belt and tensioner change, dealers wont change the water pump unless you ask them too, and the service sheet that the techs go by will tell them ifs its just the toothed belt to be changed or belt and tensioner, for example on the bkd 2.0 pd engine in the octy 11 at 80k its a belt only, then at 160k its belt and tensioner. hth

Unfortunately this simply isnt the case : ( (speaking as an ex skoda master tech)
