A little help

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, first time member from Ireland but been reading for a while. I had spent the last month pining after a GTI(running cost too high), then a GTD(too expensive), then I came across the Octavia vrs and boy it looks an allround impressive package. I visited my local dealer yesterday and will finalise the order first thing Monday morning. There is a very impressive equipment list as standard including bluetooth and the dealer is throwing in metallic paint as part of the package. I'm getting MDI as an extra but not so sure about the lights or 18" wheels. Are the xenon lights worth the extra cash and how does the car perform on 18" in terms of handling and ride compare to the 17".

The dealer had no car to test but he did give me the keys to his 170 superb and I have to say what an engine.

Interesting! You can't get them with 17's in England and Bluetooth is a £400 option. I wouldn't bother with MDI as you get an SD slot so for £15 get an 8GB card and fill it! I have gone from Xenon's as looking at the forum they are a hell of a lot better and they also turn with the wheels!

Welcome to Briskoda.......

Enjoy your stay!! ;)

You should consider the "sound system" upgrade its a fantastic option.

Welcome :)

Welcome to Briskoda, I'm sure you will pick up a lot of helpful tips.

RealJo, please excuse the blasphemy in my voice, but have you not been considering buying up North? I did so with my order (Elegance 1.4 TSI DSG + Extras), hasn't been built, so still waiting. Turning out to be 3k EUR cheaper than same spec sold in Ireland (after all fees, VATs and VRTs will be paid). And it's getting cheaper week by week because of the plausible development of EUR/GBP exchange rate ;)

What is the quote for you car that Irish dealer gave you, if you don't mind asking? People here are reporting 15.200-16.000GBP for a VRS?

Also, hopefully your dealer will be better, but my (double) experience was when they say "will do it first thing on Monday morning" it either a) wasn't done at all or B) was done as last thing on Wednesday evening. So trust them, but chase them- if you want your car in reasonable time in the future.

Good luck

On the subject of UK imports - I bought mine used in the UK and saved big time. If you were to buy new (that is less than 6 months old and or 6000km) you have to pay VAT on returning home. I am given to understand that you can get a UK dealer to sell you a car minus the VAT if you promise to export within 2 months. Once home you would be liable for VAT on the invoice price and then VRT. The VRT is on the open selling price in Ireland and I would suggest a trip to the tax office to get a quote or use www.ros.ie to get an online quote.

Check carefully the equipement levels - usually better in the UK.
