MFD3 Update

Sounds fair enough. I'm not sure what you were expecting from them to be honest?

Well that eliminated the maps, so next step SUK to ask for a software update so we in the UK can have both post codes and speed cams

Best of British

Good luck with that. I fear its doomed from the off sadly, it wont be SUK who write/manufacture the update though. It'll be Skoda HQ in the Czech repulic and/or whoever makes the MFD3. Even IF SUK wanted to give you this feature its out of their hands.

You'll never ever get speed camera's added. That'd be seen to condone speeding - no manufacturer will do that IMO. Best buying a road angel or other camera locator.

Not wishing to be negative, just realistic. If the rest of the VAG group won't support full postcodes (in the UK) then I just can't see Skoda leading the way. I'll be more than hapy to be wrong though!

I have sent them a copy of the navteq reply one can but hope

Maybe I am being a div talking out of my box, but how hard would it be to reverse engineer the firmware on the MFD3 and come up with our own Briskoda update that has 7/8 digit postcode GPS?

With services like Rent-A-Coder which allows you to employ coders from all around the world for free, I am sure if everyone here pledged £50 in the pot, we could hire some ****-hot Ph.D I.T. whizz in Bangalore to add an additional two fields onto the postcode search query?

I'm well out of my depth, but look at it like this:

The postcode data is on the DVD stored as some sort of industry standard database.

The postcode form indexes 5 fields out of a possible 8 because of an oversight somewhere in Germany, there must already be a "clue" in there, how to look up a 5 digit field - and maybe its as simple as changing a 5 to an 8, or repeating the thing that happens five times to fields 1 2 3 4 5 another three times to fields 6 7 8?

I dont know how these thing works, but someone is bound to know a 12 year old that does.

If clever people can copy the bit of code that drives the old Maxidot into the new firmware, then clearly there is talent out there that could address this problem for a bit of pledged beer money.

Here is my £50 bounty payable by paypal to anyone who can work it out independent of VW-Audi Group. Add your £50's to the list and update the total.

Let's not just moan.... let's incentivise the solution.

Free market must be good for something eh?
