FREE Taster Day - Andover, 17th April

Featured Replies

Had a few PMs from people wanting to another advanced driving taster day so I'm arranging one on Saturday 17th April

It'll be based around Andover and will be an on-road day with the routes spread across Wilts, Hants, Berks and possibly Oxfordshire. Format tends to be quite informal and the aim of the day is primarily fun with the hope that you might come away with some useful feedback and a desire to take things further :D

You'll be paired 1 to 1 with a coach in the morning and a different one in the afternoon and there'll be a selection of pre-chosen routes to choose from. The rough format is along the lines of:

9am Arrive and meet everyone

9:30am With your coach, drive one of the pre-set routes

10:30-11ish am Now switch places and your coach will drive one of the pre-set routes

12:30ish Lunch

1:30ish With your second coach, drive one of the pre-set routes

2:30-3ish am Now switch places and your second coach will drive one of the pre-set routes

4-4:30ish Finish

Of course, flexibility is the order of the day and routes can be shortened if people were keen to drive with more than 2 coaches or if people wanted an opportunity to put into practise what a coach demo's with them feeding back, and there's always scope for drives after 4-4:30 if people are interested.

The routes selected mostly focus on the fun and challenging types of roads which tend to be A and B roads, although if people were desperate to work on town driving or motorway driving then they can be easily accommodated. There will be at least 3 routes to choose from and they can be run in either direction, strayed from or completely ignored ;)

Everyone will be driving their own cars as this keeps insurance issues to a minimum, but if people want coaches to drive their cars then let me know and I'll get hold of their insurance details so you can arrange suitable cover.

Cost for the day is simply the price of your lunch (which will likely be at a pub or similar) and the petrol/diesel your car uses. The coaches are all doing this voluntarily because they love driving and love helping other people to get the best out of their driving.

The day is open to all, irrespective of age, skill level or experience ;)

So, I think that's everything covered - let me know if not!

So if you're interested in coming along and finding out a bit more about advanced driving, please drop me a PM or add yourself here :D

Potentially interested as I learned a lot from the last one.

Date changed! :wonder:

Still potentially interested. Week before Castle Combe so as long as it doesn't go forward a week I should be in!

Afer missing the Autumn one i'd probably be up for this one.

What am i likely to get out of the day though?

I'm all for the more learning but would be interested to know what exactly i'll be learning!

How to drive faster on the road?

Safer on the road?

Faster AND safer on the road?

Better awareness of new roads? (meaning faster and safer i guess!:))

Good of you to organise another one Chris

Will see if I can make this one.

It's certainly an interesting question, and largely up to you what you want to learn and will of course be relative to your current driving standard :D There's no set syllabus for the day and the goal is to have fun and maybe learn a thing or two. Anything you learn on the day will be based on Roadcraft (and any other experience the person you're paired with has).

Can we help to make you a safer driver? Hopefully.

Can we help to make you a faster driver? Hopefully.

Can we help you to drive on unfamiliar roads safer and faster? Hopefully.

Not the best sales pitch in the world I'm afraid

Perhaps some of the people who've attended previous days can comment on their own experiences...

Chris

Let's hope your driving/teaching is better than your selling! :giggle:

I didn't mean to put you on the spot just having had no training further than the minimum needed to get me through my test I'm not sure what to expect.

I think that as it's a free day, if i take just one useful thing away i'll condsider it a success!

And should i find it a complete bust at least i'll have seen experienced the Andover countryside :)

I did a full Roadcraft day a while back so any brushing up in that respect is all good for me!

Gutted. SWMBO goes in for a serious op 2 days before this, so I won't be able to make it :(

Would love to but too far away for me. :(

No problems putting me on the spot, and it's a very valid question after all, why bother having lessons for something you can already do perfectly well (and have demonstrated to an examiner who then gave you a licence). But then there's always that nagging doubt in the back of your mind that maybe there are some tweaks that could be made to your driving to make you a safer, smoother, more progressive driver on any road...?

So for the price of a bit of diesel and your lunch, it's gotta be worth a punt, right? ;)

Chris

ps There is no obligation to continue and no salesman will call. Your home may be at risk if you do not keep up repayments and calls made using a mobile will be charged at your normal network rate. :D

I could always do with some extra tuition :)

Looking at around 20 people coming now - a great turnout :D

If anyone else is interested, we can probably squeeze a few more in...

Chris

Good luck, John!

Still, it can't be any worse than a drive with me and Dave, eh Nick? ;)

Chris

Hi Chris

I am sorry about this, but going to have to resign myself I am doubtful for this day. Even if my car is back on the road in time I am going to need a whole weekend I think to get the car setup in time for Castle Combe on the 24th....

No worries, Jase!

Just finalising the routes and the matrix now - any more for any more? :D
