Dealer Discounts

Featured Replies

Are any dealers offering reasonable discounts ? A lot of people seem to be saying that they will not offer anything off list price, hence having to go to online means to buy the car. I would rather deal with a dealer, even if it was a different part of the country ??

I ordered mine from James at Allams of Epsom. I got a deal which, at the time it was placed at least, was very competitive with internet deals, and got to deal with a saleman and dealership who are really into cars and know their stuff; they also sponsor this forum which is a big plus in my book. I will reserve final judgement on Allams until I take delivery but my experience so far has been very positive and Aerofurb, whose recommendation I followed in the first place, should be able to tell you a little more. Having said all of that, if I had not contacted Allams I would probably have ordered through a broker because my local dealer was appalling and many people speak highly of the dealers that they have been put in touch with by brokers. One thing I would recommend is getting your order in quickly. The wait is painful and I have read on this forum of 16 - 20 week lead times for orders placed nowemoticon-0104-surprised.gif

I got around £2,350 off the list price on a 1.2 SE

I too prefer to deal with a dealer, and there are many decent Skoda ones. Only a very few cars are so desirable or difficult to obtain that they attract no dealer discount. No Skodas fit into this category, though the wait for Yetis is possibly making some dealers think they don't have to discount. However the issue with the Yeti is less likely to be massive demand (good as they are) but difficulties in supply ie the dealer still wants to sell to meet targets.

Dealers saying they won't do deals will usually fit into at least of one of 3 categories:

1. they are checking to see if you know the market or are an innocent. Demonstrate you are knowledgable with internet broker quotes, quotes from other dealers or eg the WhatCar target price (which you should be able to better). Some dealers will denigrate internet offers, but the well-known and reliable brokers put you in touch with a dealer who has in effect guaranteed a discount.

2. they think you're an idiot. They don't deserve anyone's custom. alk away and find a decent dealer/consider internet broker

3. they are in a monopoly position eg no competiton for miles. Find another dealer/consider internet broker.

Several dealers are recommended by posters on this forum and I'd be tempted to approach them first.

I'd a great deal from Sinclair Skoda in Swansea. The sales manager's opening comment to me when I took a test drive arranged by Skoad was "I'd rather 10% of something then 100% of nothing!" He was true to his word and gave me a deal that bettered some internet deals, and equalled one other. It was way better than the other dealer had offered.

Why not give him a ring? All you have to lose it the cost of a call.

He also gave me a reasonable px for my old car, despite the change=over not being for another 6 weeks.

George
