door window /locking problems octavia tdi

Featured Replies

Hi guys-need help! car is a 2003 tdi elegance Octavia. Tonight the passenger door window started going up down slightly on its own. All windows go up down ok apart from the front passenger door window which goes down but cannot be stopped until it is fully down at which point it goes up on its own accord. Also tonight ,the central locking is not working properly ie it works sometimes and at other times only the boot locks. Instrument panel shows door open when all are shut and door led on drivers door is lit all the time. Any suggestions welcome apart from torch the b******! cheers!

Going on what ive searched for...water ingress

:+1+ for water ingress, and maybe, a broken microwitch in the drivers door lock.

Does the light on the bottom of the door panel come on when the door is opened, and go off when the door is closed?

Hi mbames, yes the light at the bottom of the door works as normal. Today 'swmbo ' says that after engine had run for 20 seconds the front passenger window started going up and down on its own . The remote only locks the tailgate (hatch). The red led is on all the time and does not flash when locked.

Probably just water ingress into the loom/convience unit which is in the drivers door. Check the cables where they pass into the door, and for all the connection pins for corrosion.

Spot on guys, got a chance to strip it down today and the plug was wet. Problem was 2 pins had disappeared in a mess of corrosion. I ended up cutting an access hole in the convenience unit and soldering on 2 new wires directly to the back of the wiring socket and leading these out through a small hole and splicing them to the plug. Worked 1st time -so thanks again . What a crap piece of engineering design in the first place ! Found this on the web ,helps with the strip and rebuild of door etc. see this http://www.internationalcarforums.com/skoda-octavia/1515-skoda-octavia-electric-windows-locks-2.html
