Featured Replies

Yes they bloody are! Derivative means they look like a combination of both,The point i was making was you were slagging him off for replica wheels but yours are hardly Khan Momo or OZ

After a 14-hour shift of anything, I'd be in my bed, not on here...

Anyway, it's thumbs-up from me. I don't like these wheels on the Golf, but Felix_19's car swung it for me on the Fabia B)

cheap nasty sh1te, they look gash on golfs, and a poor quality copy looks even worse

Sorry - but i'm not a fan of any replica's on any car!

Interesting comment, you do realize that the TH is based on the O.Z wheels?

I think that this thread has taken a turn for the worse. While it's undoubtedly true that everyone is entitled to an opinion on a public forum, some well-known users - Oilburninnut and Polo1600i come to mind - are sufficiently respected that their negative 'opinions' can actually be distressing to people who may not agree with them. How would you feel if someone who was recognised as a leader or trend-setter came on and thoroughly slagged-off something you liked?

Sometimes with great power comes great responsibility and sometimes it's kinder not to say anything if what you are going to say could be hurtful or destructive. Or maybe try to think of a more constructive way to say "It's ****".

Replica wheels are not, in themselves, bad. They tend to be heavier and less well finished that the originals, but if you're not actually racing your car what odds does it make if the unsprung mass is increased slightly? And if the looks aren't to your taste then "Not my taste" is probably stong enough, no?

I love these forums for the positive attitudes and the helpful, friendly, spirit that advice is asked for and given. I love reading about genuinely innovative stuff like the TH's on Polo1600i's car so please, let's keep this 'nice'.

As regards what is a replica and what isn't - the company that currently calls itself Compomotive isn't actually the company that produced the original TH wheels (which have Compomotive cast into the outer face). They are a casting company that purchases original moulds and makes what are effectively replica wheels as they modify the original mouldings. I have a set of their Ronal 'Highgate' replicas on my SAAB 96. They cannot be described as genuine as they are not made by Ronal, but they are made from the original Ronal mould, except the back has been modified so it says Compomotive where it used to say Ronal. What is a replica and what is a reproduction and what is a copy?

The original TH's aren't made in 17". The best you can buy is a copy made from the original moulding and modified so as not to breach someone else's intellectual property rights. If you can't buy an original wheel, sometimes you have to buy a replica or a copy. That doesn't mean it's necessarily cheap or ****.

very fair point, this guy hasn't actually bought these wheels yet,so i thought i would voice a stronger opinion than i usually would,i have to admit to being somewhat of a wheel collector, and i say you can't beat quality wheels, unfortunatly these come at a price(2nd hand bbs rs's anyone £1500-£3000)i try on all forums i am a member of to talk people out of cheap new wheels and go for either quality aftermarket items,or some 2nd hand oem wheels off another model if price is an issue, cheaper wheels tend to buckle easy and the finnish will look ok to start with after a couple of months they will look gash, with the amount of potholes on our roads quality wheels really are a must

Edited by oilburninnut

I think the GTI wheels look great on Felix's. I'm contemplating a set on mine, between them and the old style RS4's.

Yes you cant beat the real thing, but who in their right mind would spend that amount on a set of wheels. Unless you had a lot of money to spend.

First off... Sod the wheels... Either you like them or you don't... No need to slag them off like that...

Its one step away from saying " I've got more cash than you you loser..."

It would take me several months to get £500 together so in my book it is a lot of dosh...

Now onto James..

All I can see is that James being a newbie has tried to get into the spirit of things and participate in these forums...

If you take a look at his posts/topics, he has been quite harshly criticised for suggesting things HE wants to do

to HIS recently purchased car... He wouldn't come on here asking if he didn't on some level respect our opinions/judgements.

How long do you think that will last if he continually gets slated for sharing his thoughts with us all...

I posted in his dump valve thread... Negatively it must be said. But, I didn't make the comment with any malice...

Just give the bloke a chance... He'll find his feet. And I for one am willing to help him where I can until he does.

To me Briskoda is about much more than the cars, it really does have a community feel and people on here ARE

genuinely helpful and friendly. Come on folks... We skoda drivers have all tolerated the jibes that are still with us from the 80's.

This is the one place where we can stick together and nobody has to listen to all that cobblers. To finish... Two words...

BE NICE

there is no need to spend 500 quid on wheels!!!!!!!! new reps are gay cheap cack, there are soooo many quality wheels on ebay going for a song,i just sold some genuine porsche wheels which look awesome on a fabia for 275 quid with tyres, ebay is the wheel hunters friend, buy some tatty ones for 100-250 quid and re furb them yourself,it really isn't hard

And that's precisely who someone like you can absolutely wreck someones experience of these forums. If someone like you gives them a kicking in public (and criticising a man's taste in cars is about as personal as you can get) then they won't come back.

If you read Wardy's posts, he can say "They're ****, you have the taste of a blind American" and you feel like he's REALLY helped you out. 99.9% of the time it's not what you say, it's how you say it.

Finishing on a up is also great. Love the OZ's by the way!

Interesting comment, you do realize that the TH is based on the O.Z wheels?

haaa, quality comment mate!

they suit the fabia mate. if you lilke them thats all that matters! theres to many jokers on this forum, ive decided that already. however there are a few good lads on here with some good advice.

My wheels are reps and guess what................ they fit vw one are 5 x 112 so woundnt fit the fabia, I can see where gary is coming from 500 notes is cheap for wheels but its a daily I would cry if I paid £1000 then kerbed them these things happen

As for the strength of the wheels, the very strong if hit pot holes and put the trackin out wheels still fine I stupidly hit a kerb on full lock in the snow wheels still straight,

I have to say more people like them than those that dont , as you say everyone can have an opinion but there's having opinion and being a knob ur comment was the latter with know need my car, like a lot of people on here is my pride and joy and nasty comments like its sh1te hurts think everyone would agree

point taken, not everyone can have a toy for weekends, but my pet hate is cheese wheels,i have spent many years building up an enviable collection of wheels, they are my perversion if you want to put it that way,you like the way they look and thats fine, personally i don't like them on the mk5 golf either, but there is no need to have reps,as i have shown with the oz's you can have a £1000 set of wheels on your car for pennies,i don't pay big money for wheels,i shop smart, any one with a bit of patience can re furb wheels,it is easy,so easy in fact that the oz's pictured were done by my wife with no prior wheel re furb expierience whatsoever,as i have stated in another post i am on here quite a bit,and will gladley donate my time to help with anything you like, even to those who call me a kn0b

I love this forum - its by far the most friendly I frequent. (And i'm one of the 3 original founding memebrs of the clubpolo forum!) Its nice to know that you can have an opionion on things, be it positive or negative. What you tend to find on other un-named forum is that if it doesnt confirm to a certain "standard" of modifying then its wrong! (Mk2 Golf with 1.8T, leather trimmed Corrado setas with a nice set of RS001's anyone?)

I've modified my fabia VRS the way i like it - negative comments dont mean i'm going to change my rims because someone said they were derivatives - I know that there are about 4 manufactures that make rims with the same design - Zenders, Ronal, Schmidt, Compomotive & BBS have all made rims which look similar in design.

I know I can be a bit blunt with some of my comments, but surely honesty is appreciated more than just kissing ass??!!

I would honestly say that there are loads of different rims available for about £500 - but does that inc tyres?? How about a nice set of Dotz Mugello in 8x17's for about £320? If you like the Mk5 GTi look-a-like then you fit them! Don't let anyones opinions sway your decisions!

Dont really know if you can call that a rant??

The problem with replica wheels is they go milky, fade, scratch easily, usually within 18mths. Far better to buy a good set of originals. As for the design of your chosen wheels, no I don't like em, not even on GTI's.

Hey guys this has got slightly out of hand. As you know i am a newbie to this forum and to fabias, what i am not new to is cars and especially moding cars. But its still important to get a stranger someone who isnt going to say there great because he's your mate or someone who is going to tell you there crap because they dont like you ect ect. Sometimes an outsider has a completley different view of it, a view you havent seen and its great hence the idea of the forum. Now i will say that just saying their **** is not much help at all there are too many people like that, ive had one member who has been on the forum for ages who just does exactly that it dosent help at all, if you think that its a bad idea or you dont like them maybe say why or suggest another wheel. You are not going to hurt my feelings im not a kid, like the dump valve ive never driven a diesel before so i didnt know, about 99 percent of people said dont put one on and said why, now looking back it was a rubbish idea and i thank them for saying not to. As for wheels im a temp groundsman i pay rent and dont have a massive bank account, so belive me if i could spend £2000 on a set of wheels i would, well i wouldnt i would stop spending stupid money and buy the new fabia vrs!!! Many thanks for the buy damaged wheels get them refurbed i didnt think of that and ill keep my eye out for good deals. The reason i wondered about replica wheels is because i just couldnt find a pic with those wheels on and i wondered what they would look like. On the yellow fabia they look nice, but i think i wouldnt mind to have a better look around before i buy. Many thanks for ALL the comments, if you know off nice wheels or even what would look good on a silver fabia vrs please let me know.
