Inconsistent clutch? any ideas?

Featured Replies

Hi

So yesterday I felt like a bit more of a blast in the VRS, so planted the right foot a little more, ok - a lot more. I only did this when over 2000 revs as per advice I've read in the past. I noticed that the revcounter was bouncing up them coming back down before climbing smoothly. This happened in 2nd 3rd and 4th most noticeably.

As you can imagine I thought my clutch was giving up - or the DMF, or both! I even came home and started to look into getting a repair done.

Today - same approach to driving, just to get a better angle on the whole thing and no bouncing rev needle - smooth as you like - feeling much pokier than yesterday as a consequence.

Any ideas whats going on?

thanks

Could be an oil seal has gone and is lightly contaminating the clutch causing temporary slip until it burns off. I had this on a mk3 Golf once. If it is that it will only get worse and you'll need a new clutch and oil seal :'(

i am having this problem when i boot it in 5th and 6th and has begun in 4th recently!

it started and would occasionally happen but now it does it prettymuch whenever i put my foot down in highers gears. nightmare! im going to start saving :'(

When a clutch friction plate is getting towards the end of it's life, It can & will have good & bad day's, Slipping sometimes & not others.. Generally it will only get worse & will eventually slip on demand :D...

Unless of course there is some other mechanical issue causing this which could be rectified .......

Im having the same problems in my fabia vrs :'(

Doing it in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th now :(

Not a happy boy atm

Don't forget the full clutch and DMF kit can be got for £280 now. Add VAT and labour and that will jump to about £490 all in, but clutches wear just like brake pads and will need replacing at some point.
