Engine Mount Failure

Featured Replies

Well my engine mount is in the process of being replaced.

I started getting the odd clunk a few weeks ago.

So I've had DPF and engine mount issues. All I need now is the DMF and I have the flush of PD issues :D

Which one of the mounts has failed?

No idea. One of the ones that hold the engine :D

When Claybank eventually get the car back to me I'll ask.

I've just collected my upper gearbox mount for mine today. Which is under the battery tray. This has been giving me rather serious gearchange issues as of this week. I managed to mash the box pretty harsh going for third earlier. One side of the bump stops seem to collapse on the rear of the engine. I'll put a few pics up when I get around to it.

Was wondering. Evertime i change gear i hear a thud. Not a loud thud but enough to worry about. Any idea's?

I've yet to take mine out, but the upper gearbox mount seems to have rotated through maybe 5-10 degrees and the rear stop seems to have collapsed.

Leaving something like a 5-8mm gap between the front stop and the external cage. When i let off the throttle in 2nd and 3rd gears you get a viscious lurch forward followed by a thump.

Not to mention i almost ripped the @rse out of 3rd gear earlier, i'd got the stick into 3rd and pressed firmly in position, I let the clutch up and got a huge crunch and grind. The past 4-5 days the box has been rather knotchy and crunched on some changes. It hadn't been too bad today, until it ground most of 3rd gear.

Interesting, I may give mine a go tomorrow. Have you any fitting tips mike?

Fit new stretch bolts is a piece of advice.

Would the lack of a firmer after-market torque arm insert have contributed to this problem?

I looked at the part at GSF and didn't like the build quality. It seamt to lack any dampening either side of the mount, which exposed quite a bit of space.

So i opted for the dealer part at £57, i was going to fit it today. But it seems as though its going to rain.

I've got the new mount in. But offering the gearbox up to the car leaves the mount skew'd again. Has anyone got any ideas?

Tip of the day jack from the rear of the gearbox. tilts the box forward and up to align everything correctly.
