vRS:New oil pump and still no oil to top end

Featured Replies

Additives also IMO are a gimmick and not needed, the best thing you can do for your engine is regular oil and filter changes with preferably fully synthetic oil.  A yearly change is best and is something I do religiously with Mobil 1 every 6,000 miles (once a year)

+1

I change oil every 4000 miles or 6 months regardless. I do a lot of short driving. Even after changing oil that frequent the colour is still quite dark although possibly the oil lubrication properties is still intact as i use good quality oil. These turbo  cars do run high temps and this is why i change oil frequently as i believe the hot temps can change the oil properties way quicker than VAG suggested change periods can protect IMO.

  • Like I say mine was spotless after 95k hard miles, running 10/40 for the last 50k @10k intervals I do italian tune the car as often as possible though, which may help matters

I agree with you that changing more frequently may protect more from failure .So i will watch out more confident next time , and also maybe the Motul oil will do the job as i dont need to change to anotherone :) , strange thing is that before my 5l can of castrol edge was different from which i  bought last time , in meaning of how it looks the can ,this last one is was like some fake manufacturing.

So any otherone who have opinion about Prolong ??

I waiting to get some suggestions , before to use it .

Anyone of you have chipped engine , and worth it  any opinion ??

Thanx

Remap is well worth doing (correctly), where are you based?

i'm in Odorheiu city in Romania.

We have no special chiptuning modders, garages here, but i have a frend who can read the ecu map (have a lot of car diagnostic boxes and works alot with diagnosis) so he have colaborating with a chiptuning specialist , so we read the ecu send the map ,thay remap and we can rewrite the new map so if you say that is worth doing than i give a try ,just to save the funds for :)

The car is still working fine , pulling way better so ,the cleaning was awesome effect ;)

I have a question .

Someone can suggest which brand of Front spring to choose ???

I have front left broken from two days now , and i have to change .

At the shop thay said that the original one is about 100euro /piece and is anotherone for 45 euro which is Lesjofors.(LESJOFORS 4085714)

I think that RS oktavia 1.8 T (AUQ) have stiffer suspension so it is not similar to normal octavia suspension !!?? if i'm right

It is better to buy a pair of lesjofors springs and would be like originals ??

I saw another brand called KYB ...its a bit cheeper whats about this one ?

Any suggestions are wellcome THX

Yes, the (v)RS has stiffer and lower springs than other Octavias, even the other models with the 1.8T engine. Watch this very carefully since even dealers have been known to get this wrong.

That's a good point, I had 2 front springs replaced on mine, but I went through a trusted VAG independent specialist, think they were originals.

Lesjöfors is a Swedish company, which I thought sounded ok, until i saw they have a subsidiary in China: http://www.linkedin.com/company/lesj-fors-china I read on an Alfa forum they were to be avoided, probably made from dried noodles.

Check you factory springs.  In a part of the spring coil it has some small dots of different colors.  Here is a list so you know what is the rate of each one and then you can find a correct after market one.

Hope yours are in this list.

I was ordered a pair of Lesjöfors , so i\m awaiting for with patience , and i\m really curiouse what it will be the mark on it , as your indication with dotmarks.

Thanx for replies, i hope also that it would be close as original as i dont want to kick down once again the oil sump in at the first bump :)

Regarding the the oil sump. I order my 2002 Octavia with a Heavy Duty Package that include a metal skid plate that protect the engine and oil sump.  If you make a search on the net for VW Jetta Skid Plate you will see what I mean.

My daughter have a Jetta that come with a plastic that cover the oil sump and she destroy the transmission sump in a bump. I order a the same Metal Skid plate and installed in her car in order to fix future oil sump problems :-)

Maybe you can get this metal skid plate in your country

Cheers,

Isaac

Yes i have in my city someone who sandpainting and selling such a steel plates for many brands, so i will contact him as it  protect alot of the engine bay.
I got my lesjofors springs , i checked quick , but at first time i didnt see any of the coloring dots , what i found is a part number or something, but i will check better later ...

I agree with the comments about regular oil changes,my vrs had done 125000 mile when i got it with full service history on Extended intervals, but still the oil filler cap had loads of carbon on it and smelled of burnt oil, once had a car with 4700000 miles on it,oil changed every 6000 and it looked like new in the cam cover, regular changes are the way to go.
