Why a Yeti? Why Crossover?

Featured Replies

Freelander Td4 which gets regularly off-roaded and is permanently muddy!! but still in the Freelander or Yeti process, but leaning more to the Yeti at the moment.

From Octavia estate to Yeti, if the $%^£$( thing every turns up!

From Octavia estate to Yeti, if the $%^£$( thing every turns up!

 Im begginning to think the same thing! Same here; Octy estate and I missed the 4wd grip my previous Octy 4x4 turbo offered hence... something nippy with the 4wd traction abilities from a brand I really like. :)

I have some sympathy for angry Yeti guy (sorry don't remember name) but I cannot for the life of me see how this is an inherent design fault. If snow chains are compatible with 16in wheels then why not buy a set of four steel wheels and wheel trims for trips to Siberia or wherever it is that you frequent? This avoids the cost of selling your Yeti and the exisitng 17in wheels will always be something that you can sell on. In fact, why not replace your 17in wheels with a set of 16in Moon or Spectrum alloys and sell the 17in wheels? There may even be drivers of E or S model Yetis who would consider a free swap. Just my thoughts anyway because it is not good to hear someone border on the disgusted with what is roundly considered to be a fine car. Smile angry Yeti guy and enjoy all of the other aspects of the Yeti that make it such a cracking motor.:)

AH SORRY, I posted the previous post after reading page two of this thread without realising that there was a third page and that the conversation had moved on. Anyway, I had a Smart Fortwo prior to the (on order) Yeti. Never had a Skoda before but lots of VWs.

Selling my immaculate Mercedes-Benz SLK230 and have just heard that I can collect my ex-demo (reg. January 2010) 140 TDI Elegance next Thursday.

Personally I do not wish to be isolated by snow again, so a 4*4 was a prerequisite - and the Yeti provides that

Taken that post #1 mentions snow in the context of getting stuck in it and post #2 warns that there is a question over the suitability of snow chains on some Yeti models - that's on topic.

The report that we received was for post #2, with accompanying text from the reporter that:

'This post is about why you bought a Yeti not why you hate it!!!'

And a request to delete it.

This was a no further action report from the start, which out of courtesy I sent a personal message, implying such and explaining the reasons why we would not delete it, back to the reporter. It's a shame that the same courtesy could not have been returned.

If by some stretch of the imagination, you think that post #2 is off topic and merits deletion, here is an example of a topic losing its way.

Enough

Blimey, shall we give it a rest - mods et al and go back to the thread as to why we want/order/like/bought a Yeti and what we had before as per the OP? Perhaps if we ignore the topic of sn*w chains then the thought will go away to somewhere else and implode....

I traded my Fabia vRS for the Yeti. Great car replaced by a brilliant one.

[Most eloquently versed, Lee.....emoticon-0105-wink.gif ]

Shall I start another thread on Xenons again?

Reasons I chose a Yeti 1.2SE:

1. My kids weren't car sick in it (believe me after the experience we had with a mazda6 this was the biggest selling point)

2. The seatbelts lie across a child's body correctly when they are just on a booster (in the Octavia they go across our child's neck)

3. 5 star NCAP rating with ESP (an extra though)

4. Didn't look like a people carrier - Yeti is funky

5. Good visuals and I can see where the bonnet ends (sharp contrast to Peugeot 3008)

6. It was reasonably environmentally friendly

7. I could go over all the tall speed bumps and negotiate kerbs etc with no scrapping the bottom of the car

8. I'll have the first Skoda in the school carpark

Small gripes

1. Boot space smaller depth than my Mazda 323

2. No spare tyre as do not compromise 1. further

3. Looks like a 4x4 - don't want to be a 4x4 Mum stereotype

4. Middle seatbelt garrots anyone in the middle back seat - fortunately only have 2 kids

5. No flat boot sill to sit on and sort out the kids wellies

Up until today I actually rated Briskoda as one of the best communities to spend time on, in fact Ive often said to potential visitors that its very well moderated. I know the skill in fair moderation as Ive been a mod on a number of forums previously and still am today. Its not an easy job and usually involves being in the middle of what appears a petit arguement. At tmes it can be a thankless job.

However, if its just a case of talking about the Yeti then anything could be deemed on topic to a degree. Was it on topic as per the post title and OP's question? No. Have several other threads been very annoyingly taken off on a tangent to digress again to dicussions of snow chains and the fact they cant be used (allegedly) on an elegance? Yes. Therefore is the poster guilty of posting irrelevant off topic posts? Yes, without a doubt.

Everyone is guilty of it at some point (me included) but to keep doing it in threads that have absolutely nothing to do with the fitment of snow chains just to fulfill some sort of petit vendetta against Skoda UK certainly requires someform of moderation.

Ive been on Briskoda for over five years now and Ive never known any other member to get so many backs up before - apart from some of the more obviously and directly abusive ones of course!

Apologies for being off topic. emoticon-0143-smirk.gif

Thank you FocusZtec for this show of support.

Maybe my reaction to BigW was a tad OTT but I do think I was echoing the sentiments of the majority when suggesting that a moderator should perhaps intervene (I was not alluding to any serious action against Y4Yeti - just perhaps a quiet word in the form of a PM). I was not expecting to be jumped on so quickly by a moderator myself. I know it is not an easy job to stay impartial and make purely objective decisions but I think one of the main objectives of a moderator should be to maintain a sense of harmony within the community. This clearly was breaking down a little in this thread.

Anyway, let this be water under the bridge and let's get back to interesting debate and discussion about our Snow Monsters.

Dave,

The forum moderators will step in for insulting, inflamatory, Spam, legally questionable and various other reasons on a forum, but one reason we wont jump in with two feet about is because somebody has a differing view from an individual on a relevant topic, if it really annoys you so much I am sure there is an "Ignore User" feature on the forum which will hopefully let you to continue with blinkers on and enjoy the forum.

Previous posts containg private messages have been removed as they are indeed intended to be a "Private Message" and not a forum announcement.

Try to keep on the topic of yetis and if there are any concerns please feel free to get in touch with any of the moderation team rather than public posting, this is covered in the site rules!

Many thanks.

I'm puzzled, BigW, as to why the thread of support for Lady Penelope has disappeared without trace, without comment? Did Lady P herself request it? Or was it the Mod Police acting unilaterally? If so, pray tell, else we can never learn how not to transgress again.

Infact, Freshacre, Apologies but I am going to close this thread, it has degenerated to off topic even though it started off in the right direction, feel free to start a new thread and quote in all the useful posts but with diva strops and attention seeking this thread is doomed.

Any users please feel free to PM me for clarification.

Thanks.
