Typing this in the garage. Mongrel is busy being made to tickover at 2000rpm for a fair while to ensure everything is fine.

Sounds OK at the moment and it started up quite nicely.

Still some bits to do - Rear left window to refit, Bodywork to do, GTI drivers seat to fit! #1 task complete though! One running engine! :D

Get the inside steam cleaned mate to sterilise it after all that mould...

Bet its nice to hear it running again! emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Tidy :)

What sort of power you expecting?

Well done

Should be 300bhp once tested, and fettled.

Found an unfortunate oil leak around the sandwich plate for the take-off for the new oil cooler system so car is back on lift and being checked again. Turbo side is totally dry though, which is great. :)

Excellent :)

Still only revving to 4k though? :giggle:

Oh come on! 4.5k at least! :D

Cool.

Good to hear J

Video - And don't worry - Took a little while for it to start firing on all cylinders so it sounds rough as a badger's when it first started. Also the little bit of smoke was nothing to worry about - most likely oil residue from the turbo blowing just burning out the exhaust. ;)

FIRST START

RUNNING AT 2000 RPM VIA A POLE ON THROTTLE lol

That sounds like a Spitfire or a Hurricane starting up

Glad to see all your hard work has paid off, it's going to be a beast!

Sounds like a sewing machine with a Halfords special exhaust!

Oh... diesels!

This thing is running oversized exhaust valves and a race camshaft, so is going to be a wee bit more nacky than it even was before :D

haha! Might advertise the garage on the car. :D

Today it has gone99% back together (sans rear bumper which will be painted this afternoon) and been given some road tests. Is boosting a little too happily, but then it is still running old mapping..... Shall be sorted out in good time though.

Just nice to see it driving again. Was a little gutted I didn't start insurance today, as I have been unable to personally drive it - Been down to the mechanic to drive it.

I should get it back in my hands tomorrow now.

Hey,

You pulled into the service station in limp mode, i own the blue vrs which crashed!
