Help With Speaker Size's Etc

Featured Replies

Ok am a massive fan of my music, and it has to be said, if you in a traffic jam and you hear some very loud music no doubt its me, head bobbing away. Altho ive recently noticed that my passenger door card speaker seems to have a little bit of "fuzzz" blown or partial blown speaker?? I reckon so! So ive decided that while am changing it, SOD IT! Ill buy a whole new set! So am looking at replacing my front door card speakers (not the tweeters) and my rear door speakers as well (same not the tweeters)

Now i dont fancy splitting the door card, just to get the size required and the max depth thats available to me. The only time the door cards are coming off is when the dealer fits them for me.

So I would be in debt, if some one could give me the measuments for the above speakers. So i can choose some new ones.

Altho off topic am looking at coaxe spearkers so in the theory the car should have the out put of 12 speakers :p (happy days) currenty the car has 8 this is including tweeters. Am not a massive fan of over bass so the coaxe style will be great for lifting guitar riffs and vocals. The fact the cones will be uprated should give me ample bass.

Thanks Very Much For Any Help

;)

You'll need 6.5 inch speakers for front and back. The standard speakers as you know aren't bad for oem but they have a simple in line filter for the tweeters (no crossover) and as someone has previously mentioned the low pass filter for the mids/woofer is hidden somewhere, perhaps it doesn't have one and takes the full range.

I wouldn't bother with the back speakers and spend the money on a decent set of components in the front as that's where you'll be sitting. You shouldn't notice sound from the back.

You need baffles/mounting plates as the oem are built in to the speaker. Whilst you have hte door card removed it's worthwhile to get the doors sound deadened , this'll improve the bass and reduce door vibration

Cheers fella, and actually i notice a lot of noise from the back of the car, i have the stereo on fader 2, and the rear produces more bass than the front it seems. Do you know the depth as well? as some speakers are deeper than others.

And your right for oem's the speakers are spot on.

Also do the speakers not have mounting rings actually on the door, like most cars. I would be intrested to know how there fitted into the car.

I just need to understand whats what, before i order which ever speakers. I would assume there is some range filter as well.

i'm not sure what mounting depth but i know someone else has said previously on this forum that it's 3.8mm plus the depth of the mounting plates (you'll need to search for a that thread ) and he/she used 61mm depth speakers.

The oem speakers hae the mounting plate/ring already stuck/built onto the speaker itself, so when you take the oem speaker you'll take the ring/mounting plate thing in one. You really should think about sound deadening/proofing - not only reduce rattles when you turn up the stereo but makes for a more refined car/less vibration/noise.
