Warm Start Question - Fabia Comfort 1.2 HTP64 (2004)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am a newb here, and also to Fabia ownership. I am so far happy with my 2nd hand Fabia, but this evening it did something that concerned me a little and I would appreciate some advice.

Left work this evening and drove into Cosham to make a quick stop. Engine temp was pretty much up to normal operating temp when I stopped. I did my errand, and got back in the car about 2 minutes later and tried to start it. The engine turned over, but didn't fire up. Tried again several times and it fired up on third attempt and was absolutely fine again after that. When I got home I turned it off, left it for a minute, and tried again, and it fired up fine first time.

I've done some browsing on here, and am wondering if it could possibly be the coolant temperature sensor? Is this something to just keep an eye on, or is it something that I need to get checked ASAP?

Brilliant forum....I wish I found this a few months ago.

Many thanks,

Steve

Mine does (or did) do this occasionally - as in 4 times over 18months or so. If I were you, I would leave it for a while and see if it gets worse. As your searching found, it could well be the temp. sensor (should be quite cheap if that is the issue).

I don't think it's an urgent thing to look at, unless it becomes a lot more frequent. When it started, did it kick out a cloud of smoke and run really, really badly?

Hi TriggerFish,

Thanks for your reply. When it did start, there was no cloud of smoke, and it ran as sweetly as it normally does.....I'd be a lot more worried if smoke came out ;)

It just felt like I'd flooded the engine a bit...but it worried me because I've only had it for 3 months so I'm still a bit uncertain about what is normal etc.

I'm wondering if a VAG-com check would indicate anything wrong with the sensor (if it is the sensor) or if the VAG com would only flash up a fault when the sensor goes completely tits-up.

I've got to go to the local dealer tomorrow anyway, so I'll ask their advice whilst I'm there.

Cheers,

Steve
