Featured Replies

Son had an altercation with a large deer tonight ....so .....he now needs to replace his rear bumper but because he would loose his no claims it will be cheaper to get it done himself....so does anyone know how much a new rear bumper and painting would cost for a 1.9tdi combi

Does any have any idea ....this will be the second rear bumper in 6 months ....and neither were his fault :'(

A genuine replacement bumper painted and fitted has to be in the region of £400 I'd have thought.

I'm a little confused - Isn't it the usually the front that gets totalled in a deer collision, or was the deer ran over and it took off the rear bumper as the car went over it?

How much did the 1st one cost????? there lies your answer !!

He saw a deer and braked.....and missed it .... but then he saw another one heading straight for the side of his car and it managed go in the rear wheel arch and ripped a large chunk out of the rear bumper just behind the wheel ....it wont do it ever again

Uh no......three thousand Pounds but that was including all the other damage and fitting

I would think the above £400 is about right. Thought about breakers as usually they are in with front end damage. Assume you'll need a new arch liner too?

I also hope plenty of venison pie has been frozen in to offset the cost a bit.

Had a quick look at breakers websites but most of the bits are for the hatch ...funnily enough the arch liner seems OK ...... the dear little deer is thrown over the bank, it was far too messy to pick up....you have no idea how sharp a torn rear bumper can be.....yeach

Just had mine done, last month on my last FL Octavia. £127 + vat for new bumper from the main dealers, painting and fitting was £200 all in, by the dealers recommended bodyshop. Shopped around and cheapest quote for painting and fitting was £100, but they were a back street garage. Went for the recommended place, to get the job done properly.

Thanks.......at least he will know a rough figure when he asks around

Where about in Wiltshire are you? If you want a good price and a good place to get stuff done that is not main dealer rip-off pricing then try VW Audi in Bradford on Avon. Been using them for years and years. Very good blokes. Most of my family use them now as well as my friends - if you want any more info just PM me

No - I'm not in any way connected to them apart from being a long standing customer

Gutted for you by the way Kev :(

as was the deer :giggle:

Venison for dinner then? ;)

Hope you get it fixed at the right price!!

It does look like a replacement arch liner will be required. Are the wheel and tyre ok?

Although you think you were unlucky really you were lucky, I have a friend who had a 1 month old Mondeo Estate top spec and was traveling with full car to the airport <family and luggage > and hit a dear. AS it ran out,it was dark He hit it head on .The car was was written off . He said he was traveling at 70 and it was like hitting a brick wall! Nobody to rear end him, he said they were all lucky to be alive. Needless to say he missed his flight . Not a great start to a holiday! That was last summer .

Well, after assisting with the fitting of a complete new bumper.........I would have to say pay the extra and get someone else to fit it...it's a right swine to put together and to bolt on the car...trim and carpets have to come out of the boot, lights have to be removed, and some of the grey plastic trim can only be fitted once the rest of it is on the car...it took three of us from 1pm to 5pm to take the old one off remove the screws and brackets from the old one fit to the new one and put back on the car

Oh dear, Oh dear, Oh dear!!! :giggle:
