Wheel wax?

Featured Replies

I am getting some new wheels soon and want to protect these ones as they're good 'uns. :)

Until I make an order to elite (or whatever) for some other stuff too, would Collinite 476s be any good as a short-term wax to protect the wheels? It's the stuff I tend to use these days for bodywork and seems very tough . . . only possible issue I can think of is if the heat aspect associated with the wheels could be an issue, but that said, a dark car on a sunny day must get panels getting to a similar temperature too (talking about the main wheel body rather than right where it meets the hubs obviously).

What are peoples thoughts? Or should I just leave it as it is? I also have some Klasse all in one so I could just seal them instead?

Cheers. :)

I have something you can use.

That's convenient. ;) Cheers Jay.

If you are looking for something in the future, try chemical guys jetseal 109 sealant, I'm told that it is very good, and i've placed an order for shipping to Ireland, £8 deliver charge for up to 20kg of products ordered.

I've used Collinite 476 on my wheels & Its fine. It seemed better than the poorboys wheel sealant I used before

Poorboys Wheel sealer

OR

Rimwax

Failing these..Bilt Hamber Autobalm is pretty good

as is AG Wheel Seal

I wouldnt recommend using pure wax on the wheels it more likely to attract dirt than repel it IMO

Any protection is better than nothing but as stated above, some bodywork waxes will attract the dust as opposed to repel it.........

Having used a few I would suggest CG Jetseal 109 and not Poorboy's Wheel Sealant, just doesn't seem to have a long lasting effect IMHO.........

I've used Planet Polish Wheel Seal and Shine after having it recommended on here. Does a good job on my wheels and isn't too bad price wise. I just wash over my wheels with a mitt and they come up clean again now.

I've used Klasse A-I-O for sealing wheels before, then 476 over the top. Worked very well, did the job and proved durable.

As a long-term solution I'd probably use 109 these days. I'd agree on Poorboy's WS too - I didn't think it was that good.

Steve

Would 2 coats of 109 be the ideal solution? I do need to remove my wheels, possibly this weekend and give them their first proper clean-up and seal. Also see what I can do about the one I scratched! :(

CG Jetseal 109 is reccomended on the bottle to apply at least 2 coats IIRC? This applies to both paintwork and wheel application to ensure an even coverage.........

I have planned on trying this.

Can Jetseal be applied over existing wax/glaze or does the paintwork and wheels have to totally product free?

Ideally you want a clean prepped surface to ensure that Jetseal bonds well but like many products you will get different effects and finishing with layering so it would be possible.

What would you be layering it on Chris?

Spent hours thoroughly claying, polishing (fairly localised with Scratch-x 2.0 for a few minor marks, then SRP all over) and waxing my new wheels week before I fitted them, even though they'd been refurbed just before I bought them. Really paid off - they look fantastic and trivial to clean. Seen so many people looking at them when I've been driving / parked up in town.

Its when thye have a tyre iron and shifty look that you need to worry on that one :)

I wouldnt really if it needs a fresh prep finish

Is it good enough to warrant stripping off all my glaze, wax and sealer?

I guess it depends what glaze, wax and sealer you have on to be honest and it's durability?

Stripping and replacing isn't too big a job though if you have the time..............

I now ignore the AE tests completely, since they managed to test waxes and polishes in one test. Good one! :dull:

Aim to completely confuse the general public? Success
