Temperature Guage

Featured Replies

This has probably been mentioned here before, but i cant find a topic on it so forgive me if there is. I am having problems with my temperature guage, it works fine sometimes then other times it drops to 0 and back up to the middle after a while. Sometimes if it is stuck at 0 shutting off the ignition and restarting brings it back to life. I have replaced the coolant temperature sensor and also the thermostat along with the top of the housing. Now that still hasnt solved the problem so I am thinking that the coolant temperature sensor doesnt send the readingto the dial, is there another sensor in the housing that i am missing perhaps?

Probably a bad connection between sensor and dash panel insert. Code scan may state which module is having comms problem.

Cheers mate, have to take it to the mechanic for a seperate problem tomorrow will mention this to him. Do you reckon that the coolant temperature sensor relays the temperature to the dial?

In a way yes. The temp sensor is just a positive co-efficient resistor, the value varies with temperature. This resistance is read by a chip on the dash panel, and converted into a voltage value to drive the temp gauge. These faults will often clear if you simply unplug the dash panel multi-plug and refit it.
