Charge air pipe

Featured Replies

Right...after another boost leak test this morning I found out that the charge air pipe wasn't secured properly on the turbo outlet. My setup is like so: turbo charge outlet -> 90 degree metal piece (L shaped, but upside-down ;)) -> metal charge pipe down to intercoolers. Now I really don't like that 90 degree metal piece that connects the turbo outlet to the charge pipe that goes down to the IC, I'd much rather have a curved piece. So I'm thinking of replacing it, but I don't have a curved metal piece, just a piece of rubber hose from a Mercedes Sprinter engine. It looks like it will fit perfectly. Any thoughts on using a rubber hose there? Should I use it or manufacture a metal piece instead?

note: pressure generated by turbo is 1.6bar peak (that's 2.6 on the vag-com).

A rubber pipe prob wont last very long being so close to the turbo outlet.

At 1.6 bar boost the charge air temp could be quite high, therefor I'd stick with the metal pipe or at the very least a good quality silicone boost pipe.

Well I fitted the rubber one after all. It kind of smells of burnt rubber under the hood now, but otherwise the hose looks ok ;). Hope it lasts... :giggle:

Should be interesting. Pics? :D

Coming soon, stay tuned...

I'm also looking for that thermo-insulating material that goes on that pipe, any idea where I could get me some of that?
