Featured Replies

I know its probably been done before but whats the best youve had estimated on the trip comp. plus mileage covered and best average mpg for a trip?

Just managed to get it up to 978 miles, with an average mpg indicating 72.1mpg.

Its the 1.9, the average was showing higher but the traffic came to a standstill at some road works for a couple of minutes and it dropped

But which 1.9? The engine code is a 3 letter code on the cambelt top cover - eg. AWX.

If its the same as the engine number on the logbook then its AWX, if not then I'll have a look in the morning when its light.

Looks good, but in reality with the indicator at 3/4 that is probably just over 2/3 in reality, so probably realistic range of 700miles, maybe 750 if you push the range thing to nil. Still good for a big car like the superb though.

I've had 81mpg estimated but in fairness that was a 4 mile trip. You can't really base it off of such a short journey.

On a 90 mile round trip I think my trip computer averaged 63.9mpg. You can deduct 10% from that figure though for a real World result. That's from a 1.9 AWX.

72.1 indicated is still bloody good though.

Last night when I was caining my 2.5Tdi home I managed to get 23MPG avergage :giggle: . Best ive ever had on the Display for 2.5TDi is 50.1 mpg

Good lad! ;)

Yes, I've frequently managed an indicated ~52mpg, but I guess it's nearer a real ~45mpg out of my 2.5TDi.

What sort of speeds were you doing to achieve that (i.e. average speed on MWay, Dual Carriageway / Country roads? I never get anywhere near that. My best ever for a long trip was 52mpg.

Now where is that Doubting Stick that these threads normally get bashed with

Seriously though thats good going.

Just shows what can be done when you put your mind to it.

In all fairness it was one of those rare times I sat back and enjoyed the drive. Sunny day, wasn't scheduled to be anywhere etc etc . Mostly country roads and a little motorway. Guessing for the most part I was trundling along at 50mph-ish.

On average, with a reasonably aggressive driving style, I'll get around 48-53mpg on a long journey, which you can't fault on a car that size. Strangely enough when traffic builds up a little I get better MPG figures. When the roads are clear you tend to drive everywhere at 90+mph.

To my credit though I did make Birmingham to Preston at 2am with an average of 26mpg. ;) It's the effect of playing The Prodigy at full tilt and not having seen the wife for three months.

was the car chipped, mine has the fuel temp sensor byepass type chip which shows the same as u done a trip from high wycombe to kings lynn & back + urban over 400 miles comp showing 60mpg, setting 2 for total running of car filled up then worked out mpg which was really 46mpg, i removed the chip and the comp shows 10mpg less when driving will let u all know what the actual mpg is.

thats quite good

thats quite good

Cos we all know how accurate the MFD is don't we

700 is realistic if you do 50 mph all the way without hitting traffic, incase it hasn't been said already, is it a 105,110,115 or 130, man or auto?

Its a 130 manual and as far as I'm aware its standard & judging by a performance test I do on all my cars I have no reason to believe it not to be. Set the speed to an indicated 50 mph, vertually all was motorway apart from first 10 miles which is A roads and dual carriage way.

Just for info. the following day I filled up and managed to squeeze 17.55 litres in, that included the filler neck, exactly the same as when I started the journey. The petrol station is 7 miles from home and odo reading was 261 miles so a genuine 67 mpg averaged.

i just got mine to do 51.2MPG .... this was calculated the proper way by going full tank to full tank and dividing the fuel put in by the miles done.

641 ish miles and about 56-57 liters. thats pretty good i thought, 60+ would be a dream, but over 70? mental! hypermiling to the max.

for the record id say the cars trip computer is a good 10% optimistic. i had it telling me an average of around 55-57mpg for the entire tank.

i had the same thing on mine, prev owner had one of those crummy boxes fitted to the coolant temperature sensor. it got about 160bhp and a lot of black smoke in 3rd gear. it was also telling me MPG's of around 60, despite driving pretty briskly. when i actually bothered to check ( ifound i was filling up pretty much weekly and i thought that cant be right) i worked out i was doing 41 mpg. not 60!!!

removed the chip, tweaked my driving style....now i get 50+ regular.

If it's a 105 bhp manual car it will do around 40 mpg urban, and high fifties on the motorway, where ppl get conned with the MFD is this, it calculates what's happening there and then, it has no idea what a traffic jam is or if you are going to boot the backside out of it 4 miles down the road.
