Whoa! Google Streetview does Applecross!

Featured Replies

As far as technical roads go, they don't come all that much more technical than the Applecross Pass... which is now on google streetview, along with a ton of other brilliant driving roads here in Scotland. This totally crept up on me, i never knew google had expanded streetview. They've even got my house on it now... although i think i'll write them a letter to redo our wee estate because i've had my driveway done since they shot ours... :giggle:

Past 2 days i've spent with some petrol heads in the office exploring roads round Scotland and it's just blown me away, how cool.

Applecross Pass, on Google Street View

What are your favourite "advanced driving" roads? Be it fast, slow, technical or just plain fun :D ?

Google Croftview perhaps?

So many local great roads that Google have captured, although I'm not sure the computer screen does them justice. One of my favourites is the Wantage to Newbury road B4494 which offers fantastic site lines across the valley as the road snakes through

I was half expecting to see the camera for street view go to 45 degrees as the camera car took the hairpin as fast as it could. :D

Whoa! Bet they enjoyed capturing all of that :D

Wonder if they still used the boggo Astra camera equipped car they did round here, or took something a bit more suitable for the road conditions? B)

I might have to pay that road a visit sometime - looks good, slight diversion on my way home would be fine!!

Haha

Snake Pass, well known, still good though. Not sure if google has done it yet.

Snake pass looks good  looking closer i wonder if it's one of those roads that lulls you into a false sense of security? Looks like there's fairly good visibility at first but it looks like there's an off camber corner and the road surface is changing a lot / imperfections that would upset the car a wee bit.

I'd give it a whirl :giggle:

More or less what you said, its got lots of 'hairy' bits in it. Especially when your going past steep drops, etc on the windy bit. (bit better to be Sheffield bound) Some breathtaking views too. Prob my favourite driving road, I just dont get the opportunity to do it that often :( Last time was about 7 years ago in a works van.

Its not a road you want to fly round on your first go..
