What size speakers?

Featured Replies

Looking to upgrade the speakers in my Octy and no idea what size I'm looking out for at the moment! Can anyone help?

Also, I'm aware the fronts are component style with the hf units up top. Should I be going comps up front or full range coax and leave the standard hf units in?

Then the rears......

Any help appreciated

I will take a look at the speakers I took out of mine and measure them

With the Fronts you have to be careful of the depth you go for. A lot of comps will be too wide to fit in the door unless you build out the speaker mounts.

I ended up getting a set of Pioneer comps.

Also a good tip in unplug the rear tweeters you will get much better sound out of the rears. I changed my rears too but left tweeters unplugged .

Cheers. I've noticed the standard system seems a bit "thin". Maybe unplugging the rear tweeters would resolve this slightly?

i think it will..

Although an upgrade of speakers will improve overall sound

Does anyone know if the system from a B5.5 passat will fit? The sound quality in the wifes car is amazing, Gamma HU 6disk in dash and guessing there is a sub somewhere as the bass is really solid.

I had a feeling the standard speakers were not too bad, but the Skoda HU was the rubbish bit?

But that said, my car as a pioneer HU, and Alpine type-S speakers (done by a previous owner), along with additional sound deadening material in the doors.

Skoda Head unit is poor agreed ,but the front speakers are not too good either. I changed my head unit to a double din OEM SAT NAV system that has a much better amp in it, and straight away the standard speakers sounded better.

I coped with the standard set up in mine for as long as i could before it had to go. Now running Kenwood HU which powers standard rear speakers, Vibe components with 17cm Dia mids and 2.5inch tweeters mounted in standard door positions. These are powered by a 1500watt vibe amp. Then got twin Fli 12 Inch 200watt active sub box in the boot.

The front mids were approx 1-1.5 inches deeper than the standard speakers. Got round this by trimming a small amont off of the electric window bracket behind the speaker mounts which was simple enough and has had no negative effect. Also the difference in the sound of the rears with rear tweeters un-plugged and decent HU is really suprising and they still manage to give a good balance of sound from front to rear.

The rear speakers if you wish to keep standard size are 5" (12.5cm).

I fitted In Phase 200w XT52's in mine

for the front are 6.5" (16.5cm)

I fitted Pioneer TS-1785 components to mine
