Found this little gem on ebay...

This looks to be a piece of cake to fit but I was wondering if anyone here has tried one of these and how much difference does this make?

I am thinking of doing this. My Son In Law fitted one to his Seat, I'm pretty sure they cost less than that direct from VW dealership though.

He is a VW mechanic, even he says they are a pig to fit!

That is not an OEM shifter and has a variable/adjustable shift throw. There are two OEM alternatives, Audi TT and Golf V R32, plus aftemarket offerings from Forge and Nuspeed. Fitting one with a variable throw might well be problematic. All of those i've just listed have a fixed, albeit shortened, throw.

Do a search - this has been coverd numerous times befiore.

Search the part number in the forum and than go to a VAG dealer and order an original TT shifter. (they dont cost 45 GBP but less)

Should be for the MQ350 gearbox.

Throw will be reduced (forward-backward. Not the side movement) from 12.5cm to 10cm.

If you want to have a shorter throw and a reduced side movement, than you should look at the Forge shifter. (bit more expensive, but adjustable. The original isnt).

Only part number I can find is the for Audi TT but there aren't any local Audi dealers to me - will VW be able to search under the same part number?

The other problem I will have is that I replaced the gearbox in my car and I have no idea if the new box is older or newer than 2006 (according to the other posts there is a different shifter). How can I tell the difference?

Thanks.
