2 month old uniroyal rainsport destroyed :( must of hit a stone or something, is a 2 inch gap illustrated by my wrench lol oh well its only money

Neighbor next door had the same on his SEAT Leon, only it was the outside tyre wall, and a chunk of metal through the tyre. Took the wheel arch right down to bare metal as the tyre rotated the chunk of metal before spitting it out.

Ouch! I gave it a quick inspection and I can't see any damage, although it is dark. Most my local tyre dealers don't stock rainsports in 205/45/16 so looks like it may be on the spare for a few days

That could have been a nasty acident. Glad there's no serious damage.

My local tyre place has found it difficult to get hold of Uniroyals too. They are available from one of the big online retailers though.

Sounds like no one was hurt, which is what's important. Like you said, it's only money.

I think Uniroyals are quite soft. Fantastic grip, but weak. I've just changed my front two as I ruined one of them on a kerb :S

Replaced them with Falken 912's. They seem to be more tougher than the Rainsport 2's. More noisier though.

Cheapest Rainsports I've found for the Fabia size are here - they are V rated. These are W rated, a bit more expensive though.

Called my local fitters (kingswinford tyres)... guy laughed when i told him the brand lol if i'd of asked for any other he'd of had them in stock apparently.

Monday afternoon, £73 fully fitted and balanced. Tempted to call up and get some kuhmo 31's fitted instead, sure he did them for about £50 fitted :p

Tis a pain, glad you're ok though :)

To be honest, I always thought a tyre going pop would end badly especially at the speed... I was going round a rather light corner at the time, didn't skid or go mental I just eased off the power, hazards on and pulled over into a turning off the country road. Was all rather calm lol must of deflated quickly with a hole that big too... probably would of been worse if it was the loaded corner that gave way, was the passenger side on a slight left turn.

I always thought that too, is a weird sensation, had a rear blow-out on A329M in an Astra max van years ago, couldn't

work out why speed was dropping dramaticly from 60odd, traffic undertaking me. Back end started moving around alarmingly,

was smoking a goodun by the time I made to hard shoulder :S

Only experienced a blow out once in a toyota supra, happened to be a rear tyre and to say the experience wasnt quite as smooth as yours would be a bit of an understatement! Good to see there was no one hurt, does the wheel itself look ok?

Given the alloy a good checking over on the outside rim and its spotless, not even a single scratch or mark. The splits a bit deeper than i thought, pushing down on it it runs down right to the beeding under the lip. Splits rather jagged, does kind of look like something ripped it rather than it just going bang... its angled as well as it would be as the tyre was moving.

Whats the chance of running over a wrench and getting it in the sidewall!

Theres always one :p

I don't see why uniroyals are laughed at, we mainly stock uniroyals where i work, there are the perfect blend of performance and price, and they look kinda cool. My only critacism would be the side walls are quite soft, but that is only a small issue really

To be honest, I think he was laughing that they didn't have them in stock when they pretty much everything else... but then I don't know. Been impressed with them, but I think next time i'll change them for something a bit more robust. They grip really well, but seem to cause more tyre roar/whine at least on the roads i take to work than the t1r's that went before it... plus the t1-rs are reinforced

Would change them both, but the drivers side one only has 2 months wear on it so seems stupid atm
