Fuel consumption?

Featured Replies

HI guys i picked up my 2002 VRS today.. only put in 15 quid fuel at 115.9p from the light on it went to 1/4 tank...

so no hard driving at all today 45 miles recorded..bing light on.. on my computer it says its returning 27mpg..this cant be right surely?

only was to be sure what you are getting is to do a brim to brim. What sort of driving were those 45 miles?

I can see high teens on the way to and from work if driving in a spirited manner. If I take a more relaxed approach, I can see mid 30s. On a constant run of 45 miles in a NSL, it can be as much as 38mpg.

i h ave the same octy vrs 2002.i get max round town 22mph but mostly 18mph with my heavy foot.

out of town long run average 32mph

aint good but a good drive.lol

my computer constantly reads 33mpg combined. I get about 160 miles off £30. If you were looking for fuel economy you should have bought a weisel.

27 sounds right for town stop starts all the time.

I get between 28 mpg for a short trip (5 mile) into town and can get 36mpg round town if I am really careful but still dont hold ppl up. just need to time the lights right and be in the correct gear.

Most Ive seen from mine when it was std from Brighouse to Bristol iirc I got 46-47 mpg mind that trip took over 4 hr and I was gettin overtaken by lorries lol, but when your not in a hurry and you got cruise lol.

mostly now I get 7.4-7.8 mpl in my book going to and from work when I have it. (40 mile each way)

On a run I can get 7.8-8.0 mpl going to Cornwall or Huddersfield with the Missus.

MPL are all brim to brim calculations and MPG are all taken from the comp. I find the Comp to be anywhere from 2 MPG to 1.4 MPG out. (says 38 MPG but is actually 36 MPG)

If its std mate, get the TB cleaned, and have a look at the air filter. Also might be an Idea to get the bumper off and try draining the IC by removing the lower pipe to try get rid of some of the oil that builds up in them. Before I serviced mine I my MPG went right down, then all I did was clean the PX filter and OMG I gained nearly 10MPG just going into town.

Also when you get used to the car a bit more mate she will return more, or less lol if you keep trying to push it.

EDIT:

Also I find that Sainsburys 97 is a good fuel and one of the cheapest super Unleaded fuels you can get. I find the car runs nicer and is nicer to drive on it, also means that I can get same miles per tank but I can go faster. ie; 55mph I get 38 MPG with 95ron, 65-70mph I get 38+MPG with 97/99ron and at 55 mph I can get upto 42 MPG.

Sometimes pays to put the extra £2-£3 in the tank to return a beter drivability and same / more miles per tank. also better for your engine.

Like others have said, it's a performance vehicle really and you have to live with the fuel bills, I put super unleaded in mine from Tesco too, only so I get clubcard points and extra power (I like to think!) Don't believe what you read on these car facts and figures websites/books, that most of the time is untrue and unrealistic...IMO!

Average 33mpg from mine, I don't drive it like a lunatic and I can't remember the last time I've seen a trip average of under 30mpg. A tankful of super (about £60 at the moment) usually gets me 360 miles.

It showed 10mpg average after 2 laps on the Nurburgring but the whole trip average there and back on the motorways and driving around out there was 38mpg. I knew when I bought it not to expect as good mpg as the book figures but mine has been pretty close and has been a damn sight better than even a N/A 1.6 Fiesta I used to have!

Thanks for the replies guys. I aint looking for fantastic economy hence me buying the car:) but i though 45 miles from 15 quid was a little on the steep side.. i will brim it on monday and see what happens.

from what yous are saying nothing to worry about..and that was just town driving no lead boots

My average since buying it a few weeks ago is 27mpg.

Wasn't expecting much more if i'm honest. The C4 1.4 16v we had before was averaging 29mpg on the same journeys but the octy is a damn sight quicker, comfier, better equiped and bigger so it's a compromise I'm happy with.

One of my other cars, a 1999 Citrien Saxo vtr will return 45mpg though so if I'm fussed about saving fuel and don't need the space I'll drive that! As said if your car is well maintained it will return a better mpg
