MAF or not ?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Looking for advice on my issue, trying to diagnose the problem, but no luck so far. Had the ASR light appear 2 weeks ago and the VAGCOM scan errors were:

16486 - Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70): Signal too Low

P0102 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

01314 - Engine Control Module

013 - Check DTC Memory - Intermittent

I knew these were the 2 problems identifying a bad MAF, so I reset the error code and again and again it appeared over the next few days.

Ordered a new MAF and fitted it and again the day after the MAF threw up the codes.

I then disconnected the battery to get default values, 5 days without throwing up the ASR light, but had rough idling and jerky accerleration. ASR Light back on.

On scanning i had the same codes as above.

Strangely..........disconnecting the MAF my car runs fine. Faulty new MAF ???????????????

Any ideas to what my issue may be, your help is kindly recieved.

Cheers

Matt

Maybe the wiring going to the MAF or the multiplug have you checked that?

Plug is in good condition, no signs of damage. Checked the wiring in view, but might have to get the torch in for a closer Inspection tomorrow.

Had a thought last night, I previously disconnected the battery with a dirty filter, so values learn't would be with bad air flow. I took off the filter, cleaned it, dried it out last night and re oiled this morning and refitted. Also I checked all i could see for signs of damage to the wiring, but all looking good.

No erratic idling or jerky acceleration this morning, but I think its to soon to say. My fingers are crossed.

UPDATE: Did the above and car is idling perfectly. Will update in a week or so.

Looks like my original MAF might have been ok, just a dirty filter.

Perhaps you had over oiled it previously?

Might also be worth you cleaning the MAF by spraying something like carb cleaner through both sides(with it off the car)

If you have had a dirty filter and any of that dirt got to the MAF or the MAF was trying to compensate for the poor air flow, that could be why you had bad running of MAF errors reported.

I sprayed mine a few years back and it mad a difference.

Typically if you have poor running and diconnect the MAF and the running improves that is a good sign that something is wrong with the MAF or in that area.

Glad you car seems to be running ok now though.

Mark.
