To boot it or not to boot it?

Featured Replies

Lately it's been really busy going to work so I can only really pootle along with not many chances to get close to 3k revs. I have noticed a high pitchng whirring though and it seems to go when I really put my foot down and get rid of the black stuff. This is my first diesel so should I be getting rid of the crap moe regulary or do I have an issue with my car?

Thanks

They do need revving a bit from time to time, preferably once hot take it about 4_000 in as many gears as you have space, speed limits or immorality for!

They need a decent sustained 3,000+ RPM from time to time to get the exhaust gas temperature up to a level, where it cleans the soot from the turbo VNT mech. Uphill is best as that really loads the engine.

You will need to do it on a regular basis, but the police will not understand :)

Normally get the chance but it's been busier the last few weeks so not had a chance. Used 3rd gear a fair bit tonight :) it's cool though as my old car got to silly speeds in third so the vrs is a bit of fresh air really
