Piggy Back Chips

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

What are piggyback Chips? Are they any good? do they work? I'll explain why I'm asking, had my Octy about a month now and in the boot foam , in a bag is a small box with 2 wires and instructions on how to fit this to the 5 amp wires on the MAF, they claim it can improve MPG and add up to 30 BHP, now i'm very dubious about these sort of things, so any advice, fit or through away! is welcome.

Many thanx

A quick search will generally help, they're generally regarded as no good and certainly not for an Octavia vRS.

I wouldn't suggest fitting it!

 Not a good idea really. Your scepticism is well founded. Unless it's a miracle box that I haven't heard of yet...

id through it matey, how i understand it its supposed to trick the ecu into thinking there is cooler air bieng drawn in and more of it which then means the ecu allows more fuel and that potentially means you could be running to rich and then a possible melted piston.

This is just how i understand and i could be wrong? but im sure there are a few members on here with better knowlege than me and may be able to explain it more accurately, what i am certain of though is that you shouldnt fit it.

hope that is of some help

More fuel = less power and cooler burn, Nick, so you're sort of right but the wrong way around. Although I wouldn't know without looking I suspect this box would alter the MAF resistance to make it look like less air is being ingested so the car runs leaner and gives more power.

Definitely wouldn't like to try it!

Bin it :)

thanks for putting that right, i knew it was something like that.

its like the old school days "nick shows a lot of interest and frequently joins in with different topics, but needs to try a little harder"

This sound like like an cheap fleBay tuning box. This consists of a 10p resistor in a plastic casing. Don't bother, the car will produce lots of black smoke and probably cause an error code in the ECU.

This article explains it very well: eBay Guide - '20+BHP Tuning Chips' - The TRUTH
