Octavia vRS Mk 1 K04

Featured Replies

can any one recommend any where to get a ko4 hybrid from

unless you do the diff and go big brakes it pointless imho as you will be seing 290 bhp and without the diff you wont get the power down or have traction through corners to make it worth while

and would strongly recomend if you wanna head into that territory you get the rods done too

and the brakes if you wanna stop lol

turbo dynamics do the hybid aswell as backdraft motorsport etc etc not cheap and not worth it for the minimal gain

With a K04 on it already it should be good for 260bhp with a custom map and supporting mods.

I can point you in the right direction to buy a brand new K04 for less than £500 so you can turn it into 1.May be a cheaper option for you.

Well, I've got a k04 and no diff and stock brakes (well, except ate powerdiscs) and it's quite ok. The power is good, but it's not that brutal tbh, like you'll lose traction in corners... in fact, I can say that the real power seems to be noticed mostly at high speeds/gears. For example, up to about 100km/h a chipped k03s stays right there with me (from a 40km/h rolling start in 2nd gear), then I start to pull away, but around 150km/h (end of 3rd, shift to 4th) it's like he hits the brakes, I just blast by. And, to be honest, to me it seems like most cars nowadays have decent acceleration up to around 100-110km/h, and by this I mean that I don't pull away too much from them in up to that speed, but AFTER that...well...it's bye-bye.

I guess this might be due to the fact that the k04 doesn't give you THAT much power, 260bhp isn't really a problem to put down in dry conditions with 17" rims and good tyres, though the situation was kind of bleak for me with 16" rims and winter tires, where I'd get wheelspin/powersteering in 3rd and 4th when nailing it.

Now I'm not saying that those mods aren't good and by all means, if you can afford to, do them, but imho they're not absolutely needed for a k04 setup.

inho the first 3 things you should do bar a map is

suspension

brakes

diff

i would say on a track a 225 bhp octy vrs 1 with ko3s with diff suspension and brakes will be quicker than yours by some way.....

maybe wrong!!1

I'm sure you're right about the track, I was just saying that for normal day-to-day driving I wouldn't bother with a diff and brakes. Suspension is definitely worth it also for a daily driver as would maybe be a rear arb... ;)

but even day to day driving if you cant use the power on tap whats the point????

dont get me wrong i would like to go down the k04 hybrid route but wouldnt do it without big brakes and diff as a matter of course.

Well as I said, I don't feel the pain so much on my car, so supposing there's nothing wrong with my car ;) a k04 daily should be ok without diff and brakes.

I can see a point where wheelspin is mainly induced by torque and hence your K04 setup is gentle, yet delivering 260 real BHP and maintaining them, hence not running outta steam at top end. Still can't help thinking a diff is essential.

I'd be interested to know what suspension setup you have in that case. and what alloys and tires you are using/referring to, in order to get the power down

i can nail it in first and have no traction issues in the dry

Don't turbo dynamic do k06 hybrids now?

Can't agree with a diff being essential. LCR doesn't have one. Just make sure you have decent tyres.

i can nail it in first and have no traction issues in the dry

then you have issues lol as stage 1 cars if nailed in first will looses traction

yes this new hybrid is being tested meant to be good for 350bhp

But stage 1 cars have more the 210llbs/ft seriously I have no problem putting the power down, the new vibratechnics engine mounts have helped plus I'm fully polybushed at front end with kw v3's which most stage 1 cars are usually on standard suspension, with my measely 239horses it copes easily

yes this new hybrid is being tested meant to be good for 350bhp

which hybrid is that, the top spec ko4 with ko6 parts in it from Turbo Dynamics? or is there one that will actually reach 350?

its being tested but just like all the other claims on the hybrid units i very much doubt it will be anywhere near that figure lol

Hmm, so what you're saying is more power is pointless here in NZ with the 100km/h national speed limit. :D

Nope not at all Rob, the more power the faster you get to the limit lol,
