Clever little Monster.....and not so clever......

Featured Replies

For the first time, I had to use the trailer to drive to the recycling center - spring clean-up in the garden, you know.

The clever part was that as soon as the trailer was hitched up and the engine started, the MFD said: Check the left trailer light!! Sure enough, the right trailer light was out - my buddy had switched the connectors, and the right light was out.

The not so clever part is that with a spare wheel, you cannot get the hitch out of the plastic pocket without loosening and lifting the spare wheel. I can see no work-around, and it is no big deal, but.....

Putting the twist-lock 13 to 7 pin adapter on for the first time was a little tricky, but once you know how it works, no problem. The hitch itself is very solid and towing the trailer had no noticeable effect on the way the car behaved. The trailer is only a twin axle utility trailer with a max weight of 750 kg, no brakes.

HI,

on mine the removable hitch/hook is stowed on the right of the spare - in the polystyrene box next to the jack etc. That's where I found it on delivery so I didn't even look to see if it would go in the wheel well with the spare!

I found the 'move the spare to stow the tow hitch' slight annoyance last week when playing with my new towbar. I'm not too fussed given the infrequent use it'll have - at least someone was thoughtful enough to provide a stowage space in the first place! It even stows with the ball cover in place. emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Thanks guys. For me the answer is under spare in "winter" and to right of spare in caravan season.

Looking forward to first tow :0). Van only weighs 1150KG laden so no problems anticipated.!!

Our van is an Avondale Rialto 480/2 bought new in 2001. Suits us perfectly being a large 2 berth end bathroom so we have kept it!! Avondales seem to have very stable towing characteristics. Our original tow car was a Bora 115 Sport Tdi (new May 2000) which towed beautifully even though it only weighed 1285 KG.

Will do towing report after our first trip in April.Reckon that in view of YETI weight and no rear overhang I would be happy to tow around 1450 KG but will confirm or otherwise in due course
