PCV valve change

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a query or two that I hope you can help me with. I have changed the PCV valve on my car today as I believed that the old one had failed and have noticed two things.

1) the new valve (£26 Skoda) seemed to rattle before installation. is this normal?

2) when i started the car and and gave it a few revs I could smell oil smoke. is this normal?

IIRC the valve will rattle a bit when loose as the spring etc inside will rattle about. I'm trying to remember from when I replaced mine with a catch can.

Not sure why your smelling oil and smoke. Maybe you dripped some on the engine on changing.

If it keeps happening I would just do a visual check and make sure all is connected properly and then go to a garage with it.
