Leaving lights on 'bong'

Featured Replies

Ok not sure if i am imagining things, the other day went to get in the car and found the side lights had been left on (could blame the misses here but it was me last in the car!) but no noise when i got out of the car, have since tried it with the side lights and it bongs when the key is out and door open so i can put that down to me being a numpty thats ok!

However noticed that if i have the normal driving lights on and leave the switch on take the key out there is no bong noise and also all the lights go off, seams a little bit of an odd set up to me as all my previous cars have left the side lights on (if the switch is in the normal dipped beam position) and the bong goes off. is this normal or just my car (FL VRS)

It's normal. Mine does the same (as did my previous Saabs, and the Astra and Vectra courtesy cars I've had in the past)

Think it's meant that you don't flatten the battery if you leave the dipped lights on...

I think a lot of cars do the same these days, in fact, the first car I drove that did that was my 1995 Punto... Although that may have just been Italian electrics emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

The Leaving Home/Coming Home function only works when the lights are in the Auto Position or if like me you have enabled it through VCDS the light has to be in the fully on position

If you leave it in Sidelight mode it will work sort of like a parking light only both sides of car will be lit up so it warns you of this so as not to flatten the battery as mentioned

You cant do this on my wife's Fabia.

It bongs as soon as you open the door and wont let you leave it turned on dipped beam

You haven't got Leaving/Coming home lights then

Thanks for the replies guys as long as its normal thats fine. i dont have coming home and leaving lights i guess this is something that can only be turned on with a box of tricks?and not on maxi dot as i cant find it anywhere

You'll also probably find that if you turn the ignition off whilst rolling to a stop that the headlights stay on until the car stops moving. At which point the sidelights remain on.
