Changed rear indicator bulbs

Featured Replies

Small modification on the rear amber turn indicator bulbs today, amber bulbs replaced with mirror type bulbs that are colorless when off but still light up amber when on. Also fitted front and rear mudflaps (will have mudflaps pics later as it got dark when I finished).

Very handy, as my wife has a completely different driving position - plus both exterior mirror positions (including reverse) change to your own specs emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Here's the procedure to change the rear bulb(s)

PDF LINK

Are the bulbs readily available

I got my silvered bulbs for my YETI from Halfords. Just check you get the right ones - some have off set pins, which I think the YETI has...

PS I got there first, honest, but I think the pictures were on a thread before the site fell over, not so many pictures as YETII though :

PPS Don't bother trying to change the front bulbs, you can't. And don't go off on one spouting EU law! emoticon-0145-shake.gif

My car is a M2 vrs Octavia <bulbs offset > does that go for any car regarding front bulbs?

Ckeck you car manual. it should give instructions/method to change all your bulbs. On the Yeti, manual states the front bulb replacement requires "specialised Skoda service" as you need to remove bumper and headlight ! emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

Did anyone notice that Skoda fit a cool blue type w5w bulb in the front parking lights ? This gives off a higher temp color 4300K, similar to the xenon type color light so as to color match the xenons without having the yellowish light tint. Nothing special, but a nice touch to detail from Skoda emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Is this only applicable to xenon versions ?

Check.

nice foto TP !

Excellent! It's something I've done with my last couple of cars. Such a simple thing that (in my mind) makes all the difference.

Is changing the front indicator bulbs as straight forward?

From recent experience getting to the front lighting units on my Mazda involves removing half the wheel arch liners and having tiny hands with eyes in the finger tips! :S

I can't speak for non-Xenon SMs but I can assure you that with Xenons don't even bother opening the bonnet to chnage the front indicator bulbs. And don't bother looking inside the wheel arch liners either.

Not a lot defeats me but this just not going to happen. Barking mad design but somehow I fear the YETI is not alone in this.... emoticon-0120-doh.gif

hi aero,

according to Elsa for the halogen headlight you need to remove the bumper then headlight.

Then gently prize of a plastic cover (which is discarded) from the back of the unit to access the bulb plug; replace the bulb in the normal manner. The bulb kit also comes with a new plastic cover which this time requires an 'o' ring seal and two securing bolts to hold it in place.

barking is not the word

One day I'll learn to read the whole thread!

"You cannot be serious" as someone once said...

It was bit tricky on the Octavia, and on the Vectra diesel I had to remove bits of the air intake or battery cover, but this is just rediculous!

it is exactly the same situation in the Renault Megane - you have to take half the front of the car off just to change a bulb. Thank goodness they don't blow often.

That said, there are a few contributors to this thread who, on YETIs or other cars seem to change their bulbs regularly whether blown or not. Could someone explain why they do that? Is it something we should be doing to keep the car healthy? Or is it one of those "good ideas" - because you can??

You're not wrong. Granted that the bulb will probably last a long time, but still a crazy procedure nontheless...

I work regularly on my BMW and the worst I've come across was the need to loosen the headlights to install new xenon lamps.

This is one of those cases where it probably does make sense to fit CAN BUS compatible LED sidelights once there is a bulb failure.

  • 2 weeks later...

Replaced with Ring bulbs front and rear tried 7 shops including halfords to no avail only 12 and 6 o clock not the offset ones for my car. expensive though 32 quid for full sett

  • 6 months later...

I've just ordered these clear indicator bulbs and this £10.70 (from eBay) job will be one of my first on my new Yeti once it arrives. The clear indicators look miles better than the orange ones in my book!
