The German automobile TV show Auto, Motor und Sport compared the Škoda Octavia with its cousin, the Volkswagen Golf Mk5, and concluded that the Škoda Octavia was slightly better than the Volkswagen Golf owing to a little more interior space and other specific ergonomics, better build quality, better drivability, and a lower price.

In their 2006 survey, the British automobile magazine and TV/radio show Top Gear placed the first-generation Octavia into 3rd place, and described it as a "masterpiece of dependability". The second generation was too new to be included in the survey.

The British automobile magazine Auto Express awarded to the second-generation Octavia the gold medal in their prestigious Driver Power top 100, stating that it is "the UK’s most satisfying car to own in 2007" and that it "has bettered every other car on sale in the UK".

Along with other Škodas, the Czech-built Octavia has been a markedly reliable vehicle – more so than the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf, with which it shares platforms. In 2006, Warranty Direct, a UK-based provider of mechanical warranties for used cars, rated Škoda the top manufacturer (above Mazda and Honda), while Audi came seventh from bottom. The Octavia specifically had a reliability index of 32.74 (lower being more reliable), while the Golf produced over the same period was 87.28, and the Audi A3 99.43.

thats interesting ..... mine has been an almighty pain in the arse for the 2 years i've owned it. suspension problems, gearbox problems, in and out of the dealer for warranty repairs galore, and i just dont trust it anymore. it's never been unreliable as such, but it's always felt a little fragile and flawed compared to the kia ceed i also own.

Thats why statistics are more than one piece.

It would be of interest for all members to know what the dealer support was like when you had these multiple problems.

What were the extent of the faults, minor/major?

Did they fix it first time?

Do you think that poor service from the dealer contributed in some way to the prolonger pain you had over two years?

maybe a new thread to research the number of members who've had any warranty repairs on their cars! add to the poll whether the car in question is a skoda or a other VAG car or a completely different manufacturer!

Seems a good idea in principal.

However I think, in view of the fact that this is a Skoda forum, we should concentrate mainly on Skoda/VAG cars.

This poll could provide a historical record of members warranty repair work and could prove of benefit when taking cars in

for repair work. Some times dealers need to be convinced that there is a fault and this is not a one off problem.

The faults could be categorized into sub sections for ease of reference- eg. Engine/gearbox/suspension/brakes/electrics. etc etc.

What do other members think????

Has this already been covered in another posting- if so its now buried and worthy of resurrecting again.!!!!!

 It would certainly help when you book it in the dealership for repair, and afterwards when people have problems that are 'common' what do others think ? cheers - Stuart B)

Doesn't seem as though this is going to fly.

So far no interest. Shall I drop the idea
