Discreet Boost Gauge

Featured Replies

Im looking to fit a boost gauge but im not really a fan of having them on display such as the pillar (unless it in professionally smoothed in)

Has anyone fitted one into the Ashtray section? so it can be hidden by the flap when not in use.

I have seen the ones where you can make use of the dash pocket space but im going to be fitting a double din touchscreen in there so thats not an option

Im looking at getting something funky like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PLASMA-DISPLAY-TURBO-BOOST-GAUGE-IN-PSI-52mm_W0QQitemZ160367293719QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2556a2b517 or http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/52mm-LED-BOOST-GAUGE-psi_W0QQitemZ370351945351QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item563ab23687

Was going to suggest the dash ccubby hole but thats a no go as you said.

Been looking at those gauges too, bargain, they also do some decent looking smoked ones too.

How about a pod ontop of the steering column sitting between the rev counter and the speedo?

how much are those steering surround holders out of interest?

I used to have my boost gauge in the ash tray but moved it to drivers side vent as you couldn't see it very well down there,i now have a volt meter in ash tray, there's a pic in the car domain link in my signature if you want to see how it looks

car looks sweet mate

love the RC octy aswell :D

This is my one, its a liquid gauge

I don't really look at it whilst driving like you would with a boost gauge mounted in the A-pillar.

The flap hides it when it's not in use.

wow i like that :D

think i might do something similar but with a boost gauge

I don't know how well it would work with a boost gauge, the LG is only about a cm thick so it doesn't go too far back into the ashtray insert but I guess a boost gauge would be a few cm's deep at least.

could always chop the back of the gauge off to accomodate :)

I got mine from American Motorsports in the US, but Awesome do them for about 25 quid + VAT and delivery

They're made by NewSouth Performance

looks a custom jobbie to me

Yeah, I made a plastic backing plate originally but another guy on here borrowed it off me for a week and got some guys in the workshop where he works to make up the metal backing plate and let me keep it when he gave me back the gauge.

This is my home made Liquid gauge mount that I made from an old peice of scrap alloy.

I only posted this for info as I realise most people wont have the equipment (milling machine, lathe etc) that I have to tackle such a job

Looks great! love the little VRS badge :)

There are PC modding companys that would do something like that for £25, I want to do a similar thing but have a dedicated boost gauge and a liquid gauge for diag and so forth.

Cheers mate

On the car it actually looks better than it does in the pic...... think its because the alli reflects too much light back ??? or I'm just not very good with a camera.

The badge is a Skoda tie pin badge with the pin cut off.....it was no great loss to loose the tie pin, it never looked right with my overalls and steel toe capped boots anyway

If I can find another scrap peice of alli (too tight to buy new :giggle: ) I might have a go at making another, only this time machine it so the liquid gauge is tilted backwards slightly in relation to the front face (not that there is anything wrong with it as it is)..... just thought it might be a small improvement on the original.

Not as nice looking as the above, but you could buy a Liquid Cube and it fits in the ashtray quite nicely.

Cheers mate

How did you fit the whole lot together? I like the idea of the having above the stereo but i dont have the tools to machine anything like that. Would it be cheeky to ask of some pics of it when you take it out for the new one please! :D
