Detailing a Black Range Rover

Featured Replies

A work colleague has just bought one and really wants to look after it. He asked me how I would do it and with it being black and me having a silver car I'm not sure. He's never detailed a car before (I'm still learning too) so he will be doing everything by hand so no machine polishers. I don't use one either, always been too worried I'd ruin the car.

I want to know what the best polishes, waxes and sealents are best for a black car. Also need stuff for cleaning and sealing wheels too.

Currently I do the following.

  • Wash car with AutoGlym Shampoo and using the 2BM.
  • Clay car with Meguires Quik Clay detailing system - Was told it was a good one to use for beginners and I've had no problems with it.
  • Polish with AutoGlym Super Resin Polish (x2 if it's been a while)
  • Seal with AutoGlym EGP
  • Apply AutoGlym High Definition Wax

Not sure which ones will apply to a black car. I think the clay should be fine. I find it easy to use. If someone could give me a shopping list of stuff for him to get that would be good and also the order he should apply them to the car.

Thanks in advance

Martyn

Will be a nice motor to work on for you mate and I am sure and firstly I would say, don't be worried about anything, sometimes you have to try things to learn..............

There are many products that may suit black better than others but you have to take into account such variables as durability and price, the items and process that you have will be fine on the Range Rover and will yield good results..............

I am a big Zaino fan at the moment and Z8 does some wonderful things on black but if you wanted to get a product that could be used on the paintwork and the wheels then you can't go wrong with some FK1000p.............

OK. So with the Zaino (Z8?) would I use that right at the end after waxing?

Yes mate, it's a spray sealant if you like and there are other similar products on the market such as Megs Ultimate Quik Detailer.......
