Whistling Wing Mirrors

Featured Replies

Noticed a pronounced wind noise whistle from the drivers side wing mirror....starts around 45mph and builds from there.

Not checked the passenger side yet to see if that is similar.

If I fold in the wing mirror it goes......anyone else have something similar...is it normal???

Sorry, but I've had no problems of this nature, could it be a crosswind thing ? or even a happywind ?

Interesting. Anything visibly out of the ordinary on the mirror itself ? (cracks, nicks, cover moved out of position...)

Has this just started to happen ?

Well I just noticed something.....look at this pic:

That photo is taken bang on centre......if you look closely at the wing mirrors the drivers side is definitely more square on than the passenger side - that being raked back more.

Just been and looked again and checked definitely the case.

Question do yours do the same? A front on pic would be most useful!! I mean are they meant to be slightly differently aligned due to the different distances to the driver??

You see the drivers side whistles, the passenger side silent. Only picked car up yesterday so...yes to me just started to happen.

Yes, ours is the same. It seems to belong to the design. But no wind noise or whistle coming from driver side.

OK, thanks YETII appreciate you taking time out to check that for me, thank you.

Maybe its a seal or the like, think I will book a trip to the dealer to get their opinion.

If you look at nearly every car that asymetric pattern of mirrors is present, because of the way they have to be "folded" to take into account the view from the driver.

Yes, just looked at my BMW, thats the same! Jeez, you live and you learn huh, never noticed that before.

Good morning Octy,

Our 140 TDI has NOT got Whistling Wing Mirrors- I think a trip back to the dealer is in order  as I don't think that is normal nor acceptable.

Maybe wait until after Easter? until you have driven "Patsy" more... just in case other queries pop up

I hope she will soon "be sorted!" :sun:
