What to do performance wise?

Featured Replies

Hi - been reading up on the 'net a bit on the Fabia vRS.

Looks like suspension upgrades and a Seat support strut would help significantly improve the ride of the car.

As I am going to buy a new car, with a bunch of options, and at some point thinking of one of those 1-click units, some uprated gear seems like a good plan.

However - I don't want to loose warranty on the car.

What can I get away with and any dealers I should consider in particular?

I'm in the Oxford area and I work in Bracknell, so via Newbury in case someone can recommend a friendly dealer :D

Currently in the US so I can't just drive round a bit and ask about.

Thanks for your recommendations :D

Anything will invalidate your warranty :(

Still that doesnt stop me putting some huge brakes on this weekend :D

Having it chipped is a must, I went for an AmD one click as you can switch it back to standard easily, also went for the Ibiza Cupra PD 160 inlet pipe to feed the airbox, seat sport sturt brace and a lower strut brace to finish it off and that's about it for me.

I know its not helpfully seeing your not in the country but to be honest its the only way you'll find out. Have a chat with your dealer to see what they will and want let you do. I would of thought you'll get away with a suspension and brake upgrade . As for a remap. Don't know.

Hi Chavyboy,

I spoke with AMD last week who told me the above and more. However although you can replace the 'sport' map with the regular engine map, is there anyway the swapping of maps can be detected by a dealer (or anyone else with a VAG COM)?

I just wondered if there was a register that counts every time the ECU is modded...??

Well as I understand it but Ross Clark maybe better qualified -

First time you one click your car your standard map is read and downloaded onto the unit. You then one click and it swaps the base map on the ECU with the sport map. I have also been told it clears any error codes that are produced but there wasn't any error codes when I got Rooboy to check the other day with his VAGCOM so either it is working 100% and does clear the codes or the AmD one click is that good it doesn't produce any.

I suspect this can not be detected as the map is put back to what you had it before but don't quote me on that.

Hi & thanks for the replies :)

Suppose I'll ave to check with the dealer then on the upgrades. The strut as you say should be ok, after all, that's merely replacing one part with a better part without reducing safety.

Brakes although safer is prolly harder as they may not have been officially approved with this vehicle (although we all know they would work better).

The mapping I can't do for a bit anyway as I'll definitely need to run the car in first I guess :D

I did about 4500 miles before I enhanced the engine

Cant believe Im going to ask this but where do you plug the one click in. I havent got one yet but dont know where the EMS is.

Another stupid question, are the one clicks exclusive to the car on which they are first used or can they be used on more than one car. N  o that is too silly as everybody would be borrowing from each other and AMD would be skint.

Oh god Im making a total a**e of myself on here , I aint got a clue, god I should have been born a woman (mind you most of them probably know more about cars than I do.

The OBD port is behind the little pull down cubby box and the right hand side.

Chavyboy,

Your sig quote of 146bhp - was that before mods?

Its just that I'm sure I have read a few postings of people dyno'ing their Furby's and seeing >130bhp without mods...

Looks like delivery times are pretty long :| Just hope my existing car will hold up for that long :|

Depends on the spec. Ignore the Xenons and cruise and you will *probably* get one 2-4 weeks from ordering.

BTW, whereabouts in Bracknell do you work? (my old home town)

Just to answer a couple of Q's from above.

robzer- you will probably find that there is no such thing as a "stupid " question on this forum, everyone here all have their own experiences of their cars and will willingly share that knowledge. I look at this forum as the encyclopedia of Skoda's , as this site has provided information that even your local friendly dealer did not know, or Skoda UK approves of. ( I am certain that Skoda UK monitor / check out this site and learn things about their own cars that they would never admit too.) :)

VRS_AML - Chavy's sig readout is correct, for output on his car, as is mine below ( these are on a std Furby ). As we both attended the same RR day. Hopefully he is close to arranging another RR day @ the same place, to confirm the new output.

The wait for your car WILL be worth it " Be patient my son " :)

Not likely, even 'basic' vRS models have a delivery time of end of Feb begining of March now.

Oops sorry. My mistake. I wonder how many customers Skoda may lose due to the long wait??? Its only been 10 days since I ordered mine and it already feels like a month ago!

TBH we have got people who are quite willing to wait as they really want the car.

@VRS_AML - Downshire Way. Not the nicest drive in my Rover 100 :P

I'm gonna want a whole bunch of toys so I suppose that won't help much, but 3 months delivery that's gotta be bad.

Just hope my Rover holds out that long, 500 miles/week @ 70 mph (average, taking into account the traffic jams in the morning and my rush to get back home after work  )

The biggest killer for me is the cost of fuel. In the US it's about 20 USD for 10..12 gallons or summit like that. In the UK it's costing a fortune. Will have to see what works I suppose :)

With those delivery times, how hard would it be to get a proper test drive? I'm returning to the UK on 17th of Dec, so just before Xmas, as long as I can at least try one out I may slap in the order :D

I take it once you spec your car up with your supplier they'll be able to tell you the delivery times there and then, or does that take a while as well?

This will be my first new car I've ever bought :o so got a few questions

Most dealers have a demo for you to drive.

My 1st new car too. Pretty damn exciting!

With mine it has been ordered (a week last Wednesday) but the Stealer told me he wouldn't know the delivery 'window' until mid-Jan. And the window is 2 weeks apparently.
