air con and undertray

Featured Replies

hi folks, last night i lost my undertray in the snow. has anyone discoverd which other vag undertrays do actually fit a superb.

also i am having problems with my blower. only working intermitantly and mainly in the mornings. or is this part of the ccm damp problem?

Thanks Baz

Im sure someone said W8 B5.5 passat undertray was cheapest. Think it was rotodiesel? (Slap me i im wrong roto :giggle: )

I didn't say it - but I think you're right - unless, of course, VAG have cottoned on and put the price up.

The undertray is such a crappy detail, each car probably has at least 2 per lifetime - until it finally gets left off as the car becomes a banger.

Next time I change the oil, mine's getting a removable hatch for drain plug access.

rotodiesel.

It's not the same tray as a Passat, it attaches to the bumper differently.

That is one thing that I didn't understand when I bought my B5 Passat 2.8 new in 2000, I previously had a VX Cav GSI 4X4 and it also had a fully covered engine bay base - but you only needed to remove the small centre panel with 4-off Dzus fasteners to get in to drain the oil, then remove 1-off Dzus fastener to get in to remove the oil filter. Pretty painless really, an added nuisance with the Passat is that I have added the B5.5 brake disc water deflectors to cut down on front brake wash-out.

Is there any point to these undertrays other tha extra protection for the sump? Ive ran my car for 14 months without one on tbh without any adverse effects.

I'm running without one at the moment and the only difference is without the sound dampening on the undertray the engine sounds more like a Land Rover than a Land Rover does.

Other than that I think it's only uses are to protect the underside of the engine from the elements a little and possibly to hold parts of the wheel arch lining in place. Refitting mine soon enough if only to reclaim part of my garage space back. Just a case of when I can be bothered.
