fuel flap on octavia estate

Featured Replies

Hi all.I hope someone can help out as with the cost of fuel rising all the time ,I'm feeling more vulnerable

The problem I'm having is the fuel flap on my 99 Octavia estate wont click shut.As this is the main security to stop lowlifes syphoning off my fuel,I need to sort it out.I've tried searching on here and found the main answer for saloons is the cable popping out. this seems to be an easy job to repair in saloons as it looks like you pull back the carpet and the cable is there, but on my estate I cant see as its further back and hidden away

Has anybody got any ideas whether this can be fixed from outside and if it cant, can anyone advise me on how to get access from the luggage area.

Thanks in advance for any help

If you open up the rear boot trim on the drivers side of the car in the boot, then you can reach the motor, and filler cap assembly.

In my car (2001, estate) there is a small motor there, driven from the button on the dash, it has a kind of "key hole" location screw holes to align then thing.

I had something very similar on my Passat estate. The solenoid had siezed in the "open" position, therefore the flap wouldn't click shut. Assuming your's in solenoid operated, you'll have to get to it from the inside, take it out and repair or replace. I took mine apart, cleaned it out, reinstalled and it's been fine ever since.

FWIW considering this is an old thread, very old, I just fiddled with my cap motor as the cap was just sitting open with no pin to be seen, i thought it might be missing but on inspecting behind the rear trim on the hatch i found the motor and was just unscrewing it then it sprung into life, if the petrol flap button on the dash is pressed in (its a bell press type) it operates the motor to retract a pin, as soon as i let the button go again it returns the pin, ready for closing the flap and locking it in the process.

I took the motor box out and split it thinking it may need some lube but it was pristine inside so just put it back.

Happy now I can fill it up and sleep well...
