Im Looking to replace my current digital camera ( Sony Cybershot DSC-90 ) with a new compact digital camera currently looking at a Panasonic Lumix TZ7, are there others anyone would recomend im not after geytting an slr style compact as im looking for one that can go in my pocket, as i drive about alot and just hop out the car to take photos of landscapes

If I was after a compact-shaped camera I'd personally look no further than the TZ7, having been a very happy owner of a FZ8 and FZ28

My Dad rang me this afternoon with almost exactly the same question. He was looking at the TZ8 and a Canon SX200 something or other. I did a bit of research and the TZ7 seems to be preferred to the TZ8 in some reviews! Personally I like the Fuji 200EXR as it doubles up its' pixels for improved los light performance and also can take multiple exposures and combine them automatically in body to achieve a HDR picture. Very clever and the many reviews of this camera seem to suggest it works. It doesn't have quite the zoom range of the others as it can only go as tight as about 140mm equivalent I think.

TZ7 or TZ8 as a general purpose camera you can't go wrong.

Top of the line in compacts image and feature wise is the Panasonic LX3 but it does only have a short zoom lens so it's use as a general purpose camera is a bit limited. Next step down from there is the Canon G11.

Another thumbs up for Panasonic Lumix range here too....... We have a Lumix FX100 which i think might have been the first 12mp compact when we got it nearly three years ago. It's a great camara and has taken some great pictures in various conditions. It's also what got me back into photography again.

It has ended up costing a fortune though seeing as i've now got a Nikon D90 and accessories so maybe the Lumix cameras should come with a warning that "this product may end up costing you money"
