Very Cheap Oil Havoline £9.00 5 litres

Featured Replies

Has anyone seen the deal they have on at Morrisons at the moment for Havoline oil . Half Price . £9.00 for Five litres of 5-30 Fully Sythetic that meets fords standards . However only seem to sell in 1 litre bottles the Havoline V 5-30 Fully Synthetic for VW Skoda audi etc 504/507 . This works out £3.99 so less than £20.00 for 5 litres .

Shame I can't seem to get the vw stuff in 5 litres for £9.00 otherwise I would have bought loads of the stuff .

Does anyone reckon you could use the ford 5-30 . I bet the oil is more or less the same ??

What does everyone think ??

The Morrisons Fuel Station often have the fully Synthetic in 5l tubs for £18 so £9 is cheap.

VW oil specs are specially designed for their engines . Different engines require different specification lubricants. e.g. VW diesels with DPF require oil to VW spec 507 . 'PD' Diesel engines require a special high pressure oil to withstand the high pressures on the unit injection cams (spec 506). Obviously use of a non-approved oil will not result in immediate engine failure but it may well result in increased engine wear , blocked DPFs ,seizure etc in the longer term.

VW go to great lengths to develop lubricants with the lubricant manufactures and specify all the requirements in their manuals . The days of using any old semi synthetic oil are long over. Your choice !

In the Air cooled VW ( '58-'70 ) era VW insisted that only monograde oils be used in their air cooled engines. This was because the new multgrade oils did not stay in grade at that time. VW engines at that time were renowned for lasting 100,000+ miles with normal serving whilst cars from other manufactures who recommended multgrade oils needed major engine overhauls at 70,000 miles.

Probably explains the tedious permanent queues at Morrisons. And I thought it was for the meat pies.

Must see if I can get a litre of 507 spec oil at that price; about 1/2 price compared to the local dealers.

Question is what is the ford spec for the PD130 used in the galaxy and what is the servicing interval on it.

If the £9/5L meets that and you're willing to use the ford interval, I think you might be good.

If the oil in question met the VW spec requirement , why would it not say so on the container ?

Just looked at my container and the Havoline doesn't mention any VW Specs. Opie oils website lists oils meeting the various specs.

Volkswagen lists all their "approved" oils on their erwin website (requires free registration to enter) VW Approved oils

Just been to Chesterfield Morrisons and bought 2 l of the Havoline 5-30 Fully Synthetic stuff at £4.49 each (for future top ups). It does mention

VW Skoda audi etc 504/507 spec on the label. Got through 1l in 10,000 miles so far.
