Suspicious sealant

Featured Replies

Guys has anyone else noticed this:

I removed rear bumper on 10 plate VRS FL Hatch the other day to fit removable towbar but to my surprise whilst trying to remove the bumper after all screws etc had been removed that it was still stuck in place? After looking at each wheel archway part and pulling back gently I found to my surprise white sealant/pollyfiller had been used to seal one of the two holes on either side. I carried on with the towbar and replaced the bumper and added more sealent just in case as someone had put it there for a reason??? :'(

Can anyone shed any light on this for me or is it because the VRS has a different bumper than the standard Octy, just seems a little cheap as my Octy 2 pre FL Sport never had this when I fitted a towbar to that.

What would you do in this situation?

Cheers in advance,

Mark

No it's one of the two holes on either side within the rear of the boot...

What under the bumper where the tow bar goes?

I'm sure the service manual shows them filled and when you change bars you fill the ones not in use.

Think this is normal. White sealant arount the head of the bumper bolts on my 09 LE Octavia. I imagine if the robots were over zealous in sealand application any surplus could cause the bumper to become stuck in position. Wouldn't worry about it.

Did you do the wiring yourself ? I have now run the cable to the front but not yet wired it up. The kit I have is westfalia ZGB 1Z0 055 204, I am having some trouble finding the "12 pin plug (slot G on the network control unit)"---- There are 3 large multiplugs which go into the bottom the PCB box, I can see orange/brown wire and orange/green in among these wire's but would like to confirm these are the correct ones before going any further. They seem to come from the connector block which goes through to the drivers door.

Any info would be good.

Yes, had the same on my FL 1.8 TSi SE

At first I thought I had missed a couple of bolts as I just couldn't get the bumper to budge. The sealant was so strong, I had to reach up the inside of the bumper and cut through it with a craft knife, otherwise I think the bumper would have been damaged if it had just been pulled off.

I suspect that the sealant is there tohelp prevent rattle from the bumper - I applied a bit more when I replaced the bumper just in case.
