Cambelt change time!

Featured Replies

Have had all the parts for a while but finally time to pull my finger out and get some quotes, Cambelt + water pump and want an oil and filter change at the same time, only need to pay for labour time so thought it would be simple, how wrong was i!

First quote was Skoda oswestry, furrows group, quoted £75 an hour + vat and its a 5 hour job according to them. £450, what a joke.

Awesome were next at around £325

Tried my nearest which is Demon Tweeks and they have quoted £200 all in, when i was expecting them to be one of the dearest.

Will never get any work done at a dealer ever after this, as they are obviously out to rip owners off.

Just sharing my recent experience :'(

I'll second that. Until last Autumn, I had used Preston Motor's in Forest Gate and been happy with them. Then suddenly their labour rates shot up to the same £75 + VAT per/hour. This seems a lot to pay to have the apprentice drain your oil and swap a filter. I've kicked the Full Service History into touch now, and will do it myself or use independents. I suspect the Service Department is trying to compensate for the loss of showroom sales revenue.

£200? Very cheap! Something isnt right there.

I had a quote from these (Midland VW) and it was £260 for the cambelt change.

Had the Service done today Cambelt Kit, Water Pump, Coolant, Oil and Filter Change and service light reset, cant fault them, came to £199 thats with an extra litre of castrol edge as i only bought 4 litres cause the numpty in halfords said it holds 3.5 litres :S , thought that wasnt right at the time.

Anyway all done and book stamped, done by ex vw mechanic who works there now, thumbs up from me
