Octavia what speakers ???

Featured Replies

Just joined, just bought an octavia of course. Sound system isn't much better than my mates capri and thats original (perhaps a little harsh).

I know there are lots of articles already posted but I was hoping for some advise re. Speakers, If anyone can answer any of my question below I'd be gratefull.

1) For the speaker wires which one are positive and which are negative or does it even matter as long as you dont put together positive and positive ?

2) I have heard you can buy autoleads for the speakers anyone know what I should be looking for and cheapest place on the net to buy them ?

3) Last question (for now) honest. I'm thinking of fitting 13cm replacements in the back and may be components in the front but people seem to suggest you need a seperat amp to run components well but the original system already ran components front and rear. Any comments or suggestions from ICE gurus or any one knowledgeable ???

Ta Very Much.....

You'd be far better off replacing the HU first which imo is the weak link. I've just replaced my HU and front speakers with components. For a couple of weeks I was running my new HU through the OE speakers and it sounded stacks better.......

I ran new cables from my Sony replacement HU to the kenwood components in the front , and used Kenwood custom fit 13cm speakers in the rear that came with a push on wiring adaptor.

Are you planning on getting an amp and a sub as well , or just replacing the stock speakers? If so then with a decent HU you won't need the front speakers amping.

What sort of budget did you have in mind , and people can advise better

Hello and Welcome Simon,

if you need any advice on ICE then PM Andy_CCR as he runs a stereo shop and knows his stuff.he fitted the install in my Octy and it sounds fantastic,i've got 2 amps, components in the front doors and in the rear and also a 12" sub.

the first thing i did though was change the HU and as said above it made it sound loads better.

Yep, I'm running the oem speakers with a 'cheap' headset (Goodmans MP3,

Thanks for the advice, forgot to say, I have already replaced the head unit with A panasonic mp3 player 50 watts per channel I think & I have disconnected the tweaters in the rear. Played with the front/rear bias and got a little more bass but nothing I could live with long term.

The speakers are still too week for my liking. Im not after a sub or an amp just to replace the original speakers. Bugetwise I didn't want to spend more than

I notice a few people on here have mentioned that by removing the wires from the tweeters in the parcel shelf will improve the sound from the stereo.

Why is this, does it improve the base? does more power go the the base units?

Is the same theory correct for tweeters mounted in the rear doors beside the door handles?

Also, how big does the flap behind the front door speakers have to be? the size of the magnet or bigger?

Cheers

JD

1st thing i did when i got my octy was disconnect the rear speakers all together! music should come from in front of you not from the back (subs aloud  )

I don't have a problem with the standard HU, the only thing it lacks is Bass But I did have a 1000W 12inch Alpine Sub in the last car.
