Fabia (00) Power steering light problem

Featured Replies

Hi

When I am driving, sometimes the power steering light comes on without any reason. It goes out if I restart the engine, but I have no idea what the problem is as I had a service the othere day and they said they find nothing wrong.

Also my headlight flickers especially the first 5 minutes of driving.

I was reading that these are common problems with the Fabia in 2000/01.

Is there a solution to these and are they serious?

Thanks

YEs matey,

This is a problem with Fabia...particularly so in the 8v version. First thing that needs rectifying would be the power steering sensor....apparently this is a commonly known problem......if changing that fails, have the workshop look at the power steering pump which is located below the battery and if all else fails.....have the mains lead from battery changed..... :D

Welcome to Briskoda, Chinny. You've come to the right place for advice that works. :D

Fabia power steering light problem is very common.

I've had to have the steering sensor changed on my wifes Fabia at just over one year old.

Not sure about the headlight though.

Cheers

Mine does the same, I'm living with it...........

Do the headlights seem to flicker with the throttle - brighter when on the throttle and dimmer when off the throttle?

That's quite normal. The alternator can pull more power at higher revs than at idle to the headlights tend to be a little dimmer when the engine is at idle.

My lights often flicker too(dash and headlights) and I get a tweeting sound from under the bonnet at exactly the same time- very audible with the bonnet up. The power steering is often very heavy during slow manouvers.

Anyone else notice the tweeting noise?

It's a fabia 1.4 8v.

Cheers,

Mike.

Yep, get it 100% of The Time, I Think It Must have a really weak electrical system, as the power gets lower the power steering seems to whine more and the lights nearly go out, especially moving on the bite point alone, Iv'e been in loads of cars that seem to keep things running a bit better. I Also had my power steering sensor done last month.

My friend has a 1.4 8V and he has got the same problem with his 2001 Y Plate.

Skoda stealer said that some one had the same problem and thay cleaned the contacts on the stearing pump and that sorted it out!

He said that the intirior light went out as well and the dash ones so looks like that it affects the whole lighting system

at first my powers steering seems to whine a bit, and the headlights always seem to flicker quite a bit at low or no speed!

Also worth checking the battery as in this cold weather, it will highlight any weaknesses with it and one of the symptoms of a dying battery is the PAS light comes on (as the PAS can't get enough juice).... :D

Chris

I', having the same problem.. took the car to the deraler.. they said it's a fuse problem n they fixed.. but they didnt so im takin it again.. the steering light comes on n goes away when restartin the engine.. and the lights flicker with the throttle especially at low speeds.. im startin to find this normal.. mine is a 1.4 16v.. there must be a solution for this problem..

well, I eventually got round to getting the problem looked at (see earlier posting) it turned out to be the PAS angle sensor just as a few of you guys predicted. it cost me
