Advice needed on fitting aftermarket mirror glass.

Featured Replies

After checking all the wiring on my Fabia's door mirrors I finally found the fault to be the heated mirrors themselves and decided to replace them. Not wanting to pay the £70 my local dealer wants just to supply the glass I bought some OM heated mirrors with a blue tint (mk4 golf type). I went to fit the new mirrors and found the terminals on the new mirror are on the outer edge wheras on the original mirror they're on the inner edge. The cars wiring for heater terminals aren't long enough to reach the outer part of the new glass. I've been told that the wiring can be pulled over from the main loom to make it reach. I've also been told that if I do I risk pulling the wiring plug out inside the door which is not advisable.

The ebay seller I bought them from isnt very helpful either and wont offer any advice apart from saying they fit, wiring is long enough and they've fitted lots without any problems.

Any advice welcomed.

The wiring inside the door will be on a latching multiplug connector, I can't see how it would come unplugged. If you really forced it then the wires would probably break first.

You could always extend the wiring of course ;)

Extnding the wiring was an option I was thinking of. 2 sets of connectors and about 4inch of wire needed.

Just wondering if there's a better option (apart from buying direct from Skoda) first before messing with wiring.
