Variable boot floor and spare wheel

Featured Replies

In the old Yeti brochure the "variable boot floor" was shown as on option regardless of the Yeti having a spare wheel option or not. This item is also described in the manual on page 83 (fig83) as "Variable loading floor with spare wheel".

Now in the new brochure next to "variable boot floor" under the options they have added in brackets: (Not compatible with spare wheel). They've also altered the note below all the different trim levels to read: "Note: A ‘Space saver’ spare wheel can be ordered as an option with this model. Please note this cannot be combined with a variable boot floor. A ‘Space saver’ includes a false floor. For further details please check page 18."

Eh?

Has this option now been discontinued?! The floor that comes with the spare is just plain grey carpet to my eyes with no opening hatches to get to the area below along the sides and not what I want. Is this SUK being stupid (again)?

I have the spare wheel with false floor. It is a hard board and not just a piece of carpet. It also has an opening hatch on the right hand side to access the storage area although you wouldn't notice from the photos. It would not be possible to have a variable boot floor and spare wheel because the wheel is in the way.

Sorry I was a bit flippant about the carpet, I realise it has a board under it. So is the manual wrong then? Whey does it then even describe a "variable floor with spare wheel"?

What is the Variable Boot Floor?

Is it like the floor in an Altea that can be set at two different heights?

Tom: go to your Yeti: get the manual out, go the page I stated! hehehe You will see what it is! It can't be altered in height no, it just has various opening bits to access the areas below. :)

Doesn't sound much like Variable more Openable!!! :wonder: or Accessible!

If you have the spare wheel option you get a higher boot floor plus a spare wheel jack and wheel brace all for £50. The Variable boot floor is £170 and all you get is a higher boot floor, so why the big difference in price?

It would be cheaper to have the spare wheel option and leave the wheel in the garage.

Presumably the boot floor uses the spare tyre itself to support the centre area of the load in the boot, whereas the variable boot floor is structural and can support the load over the storage area underneath, by spanning across from the supports each side.

It will be a big issue to have a loaded boot and a puncture as the larger wheel will not fit under the floor and the floor will not be rigid enough to support the weight

 If you used something like Tyreweld then you wouldn't have to put a full size wheel inside the car anyway

Then you could save the spare wheel for occasions when you are near home with an empty boot and not for when you would really need it like when on holiday packed full of luggage.

Seem to be going round in circles here!
