Cigarrete lighter not working

Featured Replies

As title says and ive checked the fuse, thats fine.

So whats the problem?

Child switch for the electric windows is on?

u mean the switch on the drivers door to disable rear passengers from using the windows? its not that, was already off.

If the rear windows are disabled from their respective door switches through the use of the switch on the drivers door panel, it will cut the power to the cigarette lighter. The next step would be to carefully check the continuity of the socket to earth and check for power at the centre contact of the socket.

This happened to me, so I stripped the central panel and checked the socket and just before tracing wires to the fuse, I switched the child lock switch on the door. Bingo! What an idiot I felt, but a relieved idiot.

My cigarette lighter socket on 2001 Octavia estate is not working. Checked fuse 41 which seems by consensus on diagrams to be the one -it's fine (I don't have owners manual). Joyfully tried child-lock switch but sadly no joy there either. Is there diagnostic stuff I can do without ripping out the centre console - can I lift the lighter socket out?

BTW great forum -thanks

How are you checking the socket? If you are checking by plugging something in, try plugging in another item. Most plugs have a fuse inside which, if blown, can make you think the socket is not working - personal experience!

With an estate, said items can be tested used the socket in the boot. That should help to indicate if it is an a socket failure, or an item failure.

Yup. x3 especially sat nav all work in boot...I guess it's a multi-meter trail but I'd be happy to hear ideas/advice...thanks!

New cigarette lighter socket and lighter is £12 from skoda! And simple to change :)

Well that's positive! I feared it might be a hidden fuse beneath the bonnet as suggested elsewhere or a major wiring fault. So swapping a socket in is simple? Has anyone done this? Any tips welcome. Thanks!

Before swapping the socket have you verified there is power to the back of it?

Yes first port of call is power supply

My socket was gubbed and i was suprised at the new price! Was expecting £50

I'm not near the car so unable to poke at it . I assume I can lift the socket and test with a meter. Hope I don't have to dismantle the console...

You will have to dismantle console

But its simple pull out rear ashtray and theres 2 torque screws, remove these then the console will slide forward and be free :)

I might be able to fix the problem and look cool and competent in front of the kids! Thanks
