Dealer - Paint issue

Featured Replies

Ok, This is a bit complicated.

I own a 57 plate Race Blue VRS, just had it over 2yrs last week. It was owned by the Skoda garage I bought it from and was used by their sales manager as his personal car. The car obviously had rear parking sensors retrofitted and the bumper had not been replaced correctly at that time. There was a lot of flex in the central portion where it had not been clipped in. I noticed this on the car when I picked it up. The tail gate had been rubbing against the bumper each time it closed/opened and had worn the bumper to the white and the tail gate to the metal. Probably a foot long or so.

This issue was sorted by the garage by there tuesday paint guy. ie he goes round the group touching up the paint on used cars, he goes to the Skoda dealer on tuesdays!. At the time the finish and match was a1. A year later I noticed that the tail gate edge was rusting, this was redone properly by the dealer group body shop under warranty and the car was away three days.

Today I have polished the car and have found the paint work done on the bumper by the Tuesday guy is rubbing off revealing the good original paint underneath. It looks a mess, a bit like a bath tide mark. After two years do I go and play hell with the dealer? Get it professionally polished back to a decent cut line, it may be possible, but could re-reveal the white worn part of the bumper?

possibly had an accident in the begining of its life (boot not lining up correctly and rubbing the bumper). Only one way to find out go back and have a word with the garage they will either tell you to pay for it, go run into a bus or yes sir we will get that sorted.

I would guess the paint job only has a years warranty though.

Thanks. I know why it has been painted, it was the ill fitting bumper due to the rear sensors being fitted. I think a trip to the dealers Monday!
